Tyrek Coger announces commitment to Dustin

In the world of recruiting, you can spend time traveling the country and rubbing elbows with seedy characters or people you normally wouldn’t suck up to in an effort to let a kid half your age look down on you for a few minutes, but that can get expensive.  It’s a lot easier on your wallet and your pride if you just let the players announce it to anyone who will listen and then let those people call into the radio show.  And that is exactly what brings us to Tyrek Coger.

Coger, ranked among the nation’s best players in the class of 2013, was telling anyone who would listen that he’s committed to Kentucky this weekend while playing at Bullitt East.  This, of course, according to Dustin.  Dustin was a caller on the radio show today.  Assuming Coger isn’t telling the whole truth – no disrespect to Dustin – what does it say about the UK program that a top-40 player would make up his commitment to the school?  It takes far less than that to impress Bullitt County girls. And, if it’s actually true, we’ll give props to Cal for grabbing a skilled big mana and then we’ll have to give Dustin all the riches in Scotland.  But, even if we find out that Tyrek Coger knows no Dustins, hates Kentucky and is afraid of commitment, it doesn’t matter.

All that should matter is that Dustin and his tale of Tyrek Coger has introduced us into one of the internet’s great gemsCoger’s Twitter account.  Here is a sampling of what he has to offer (edited slightly):

omg on the toilet all i have to say is my stomach is killing me softly.. i will never eat a chicken sandwich again.ahahahahaha.

if twittering in the tub is a b—h then i guess im a b—

Tyrek Coger.  Hear about him.  Talk about him.  Tweet about him.  Welcome him?

    Who knows – He’s a sophomore.

I went to the game yesterday where he played. He’s a big body. Didn’t look like he had the ability to finish underneath – even against smaller players. Also looked pretty clumsy at times.

However – this guy is a sophomore. By the time he’s a senior – could be much better. By the time he’s a freshman in college he could really start to develop into a good player.

By the time he’s a junior in college….oh…wait – this is about Kenucky recruits. If he’s not ready for NBA by the time he graduates UK – Cal won’t want him.

Best for the young man to look somewhere else.

Josh Harrelson was a project – where would UK be without him this year?

Bullitt East was the best team that took the floor yesterday. They could have beaten both the out-of-state teams.

I was at Bullitt East yestarday wearing my UK Attire. After the game he walked around the gym and concession area finding anyone that wore UK and I assume gave the same story. He told me he was commiting to UK. I told him he was full of BS. He said, “No its true.” I replied and said “We will take you as long as you bring Purvis with you.” His reponse was, “I’m working on it.” The kid does have potential but I did not see anything special.

He plays for Upper Room Academy, North Carolina. He’s on the same team as Rodney Purvis – a 2012 UL recruit. Their team played Morgan Park out of Chicago, which includes Wayne Blackshear, a 2011 UL recruit.

The game was at Bullitt East High School yesterday afternoon.

13 – I was at the game as well. Saw him milling around afterwards for a while. He was the biggest guy on the court – the thing to remember is that he’s a sophomore.
Like I said earlier – I wasn’t overly impressed – but it’s way unfair to judge these kids so early.

That’s one of my fears with UK’s recruiting style – it’s based on how they perform in high school and often a kid doesn’t peak until they get to college.

    Anyone remember David Robinson?

yeah this article is worded funny, he’s definitely not from bullitt east. hell, i dont think we’ve ever had any higher than a DII prospect graduate, and they usually end up at JCC anyway.

#8 — On the bench if Kanter was FREE

#13 — Purvis de-coms the Dirty Birds and he and his 6-8 homie wear Blue. Brilliant. Simply brilliant. Few things VII likes better than stealing a Top 5 PG AND pissing off the Bird fans.

If Purvis inks for the Blue, Barny needs to give Cal a raise. That would be classic.
