Two familiar faces to call the UK-Tennessee game

When the Cats finally return home tomorrow night and welcome Bruce Pearl back to the court, they’ll bringing two pieces of extra baggage with them from Gainesville.  Two of the game’s officials will be Tony Greene and “TV” Teddy Valentine, who both called the game against the Gators.  Valentine, who made the questionable call on Josh Harrellson’s fifth and final foul Saturday, also called the NCAA Tournament loss to West Virginia and the SEC Championship game against Mississippi State.  According to Jon Scott’s site, he also once gave Josh Carrier a technical foul for “intimidating” Matt Walsh.  Seems like the entire Rupp Crowd could have received on of those.  Greene, meanwhile, called all three matchups between the Cats and Vols last season and handed out eight technical fouls.  Should be a fun one.

Here are their full bodies of work in UK games:

Tony Greene (Cats are 50-27 in his games)

“TV” Teddy Valentine (Cats are 28-11 in his games)

UK is 2-2 when both of these guys are on the court at the same time. 1-0 @ home 1-2 away…

Wonder who the 3rd official is?

UK has an all time win % of 76%. In Greene’s games its 64% and Valentine’s is 71%…..so its safe to say these Greene may have some sort of vendetta against UK with that large of a pool of calleda games and to be that far off of the overall %.

This ought to be fun. The UK/Florida a game was called more closely than any game this year. Look at the tape if you don’t believe me. The fouls on Harrelson were a joke. EVERY “50/50” block/charge went Florida’s way. Valentine was a particular culprit. If consistent with that, UK could NOT lose to rough-and-tumble Tennessee. Watch the epiphany that these two jacklegs have Tuesday night. With Williams and harris it behooves UT to get a much more physical whistle and they’ll get it. I don’t know what Green and valentine’s issue with UK is but I’m sure there is one. The other commentor is correct: with over 70-games worked, no way the W/L disparity Tony Green has should be. The guy’s carrying a grudge of some sort.

I knew this last year. Tony Greene should not be allowed to ref ANY games, much less UK’s games!!

#6 What you really need to look at is UK’s record since Green began officiating their games rather than all-time record. If anyone can do that and give a much better look at how closely his officiating relates to UK’s winning %, then maybe we could make a real complaint if the discrepancy still exists.

10, not at all. UK will win this game as long as Jones is allowed to play and the bruises on his arms he received from the mauling by UF’s front line are healed.

Josh’s 5th foul was a joke. Go back and look again. It was a jump ball or a travel before the tie-up.

A player’s 5th foul should be obvious to everyone in the arena. That is what good officials say.

The only one worse than Valentine was a guy name Dick Bavetta (sp?) that was an ACC official that used refereed several key UK games over the years and always found a way to help beat UK. One of his last feats prior to retirement was was whistling the 5th foul on Jamal Mashburn in the national semi-final game against Michigan. You will recall that two of the three officials (Bavetta being the one totally blocked from the play) had a clear view of the play and neither called a foul on Mash, but here came Dean Smith’s yes man outta nowhere to foul him out.

Valentine is an absolute piece. Greene isn’t much better. Isn’t it interesting that they keep following us around. You gotta give Birmingham their due…they are staying on course to make sure we don’t get even close to equal officiating in any of our SEC games.

Does anyone know the rule on 3 seconds? Do you have to have the ball for it to be called? It was called against KY in the Florida game, and it was the first time I had seen it called all year. Players live in the lane in the Minnesota-OSU game, and I never saw it called.

refs seem to be quick with the whistle against UK this season, even in wins…

UK had 3 fouls in the first 3 minutes of the game agaisnt OF

and Florida had 3 fouls THE ENTIRE HALF

#7) Good call on Karl Hess. Called the charge on Antwan Barbour in the Ky/Marq game that would have cut the lead to single digits with an “and one” free throw. Called the charge on Kaleena Azubuike against UAB which would have been another “and one” and the game would have been over. Called the Ole Miss game the other night. He is the biggest crook in college basketball.

Technical Ted Valentine. Enough said. If any of you watched the ESPN post game after Florida, Gottlieb was even making statements about Ol Ted, and he was dead on. He looks for any chance to “T” someone up.

I couldn’t agree with you guys more on the refs, but all this
complaining isn’t doing anything, but making them hate us more.
Believe me, they can screw us even more and not have to answer
to anyone. I’ve been watching us get screwed since Cotton Nash
played for us. The NCAA may be paying them. Go Big Blue !!!!

Right on, #30. In this Politically-Correct world, I thought Gottlieb went HARD after valentine, time and time again in that five minute span. If anyone has that on video (my son just erased ours), send it to KSR for them to post. No holds barred for Dougie.
