Tweet Beat: Welcome to the Madness

As part of the never-ending quest to bring you University of Kentucky news in the most ridiculous manner possible, I comb the Twitter-verse each week for the funniest, oddest, and sometimes, nearly illegible tweets from your favorite players and personalities. Basically, I read Twitter so you don’t have to. Without further ado, here are the best tweets of the week.

Like the first chilly morning on which you have to wear a jacket, nothing marks the start of fall like the Big Blue Madness campout. All week, campers have lined the street in front of Memorial Coliseum to get tickets for the Cats’ first practice, something that seems absolutely ridiculous to anyone outside the state. For the new basketball players, it’s their first real taste of just how crazy we are. According to Twitter and Instagram, here are some of their reactions…

Alex couldn’t believe it:

Willie Cauley-Stein and Sam Malone signed babies:

Twany signed an impressive autograph wall:

Sam Malone‘s ready to play cornhole:

And Kyle? Well, Kyle’s still blown away by it all:

Campers, Archie Goodwin would liked to be addressed as Mr. Burr if you see him:

Right about now, Nerlens Noel and Stone Cold Willow are squaring off on the blue courts. Nerlens is ready:

Odds Willow gets even one shot in on Nerlens?

Little known fact: Jarrod Polson was a child model (and boy band member) before playing for the Cats:

Hopefully Julius bought copies of that book for entire Wildcat Lodge. We don’t need any more Vince Youngs, despite what the TGI Fridays on West End says.

The Fantasy Camp and Alumni Game resulted in a ton of great tweets, but the ones between the current and former Cats may be my favorites:

This one’s a framer:

This week’s “Tweet that Makes You Go Aww” isn’t a baby or a cute kid. It’s Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, passed out on a futon in the Wildcat Lodge.

I’m surprised Doron Lamb didn’t post that picture. He thinks it’s hilarious when people sleep. I just wish I had

some

examples.

Those pictures were just a start. Doron Lamb just couldn’t stop tweeting pictures today, including these gems from his childhood:

Also, that is one creepy looking Mickey Mouse.

This was a close runner-up to MKG in TTMYGAww:

Enes Kanter‘s life just gets weirder and weirder. This week, he played a giant harp:

And kissed an alligator:

Thank God he got back on Twitter.

Rex, we need video of this now, please.

Maxwell Smith asks a question many of us have asked before:

It’s just another day for Papa Brooks in “Lifestyle of the Rich and Retired”:

I bet his computer has the best screensavers ever. Also, at first I thought he had somehow figured out a way to get tomatoes grow on trees before I zoomed in:

Want an example of just how far the football program has fallen? Check out Wesley Woodyard‘s tweet:

Please tell me Matt Smith is making a reference to Bookie, Raymond Sanders and Marcus Caffey getting caught with marijuana:

Oh, Boyd, welcome back!

Jeff Goodman visited the set of “Cougartown” this week and stopped by Josh Hopkins’ dressing room. I’ll give you five guesses as to how it was decorated.

Like you’d expect anything less from this guy:

In light of last weekend’s events, the “Bookie Tweet of the Week” is on a Tweet Beat suspension. Instead, I’ll use this space to encourage everyone to help support Lane Goodwin, a young Kentucky boy fighting an aggressive form of child cancer. Lane’s friends and family have started an online campaign to spread awareness and support Lane on Facebook (“Prayers for Lane Goodwin”). You can support Lane by liking the page on Facebook or tweeting a picture of yourself giving a thumbs up with the hashtag #thumbsupforlane. Here are some of the tweets Lane’s received so far:

Hang in there, buddy. Until next time, RT plz?

Yeah, unfortunately Tim has to sit out a six game suspension for steroid use if he ever suits up again.
