Good god…Joker needs to shut up and go away. KSR can have your pity party for Joker all you want, but he was a loser, it was obvious from day one, and he has said 20 times this little back handed comment about “give the next guy time”. Quit crying…you suck, you got fired because you couldn’t do your job, now have some class and move on. I didn’t feel this harshly until I heard him start whining about this stuff. Please, just go away.

Millions have been laid off DESPITE being good at their jobs… but Joker runs the program into the ground and its a global pity party.

I am done with this Joker crap. He was a failure. Call a spade a spade already and move on.

I vote for Petrino, then Kingsbury, assuming none of the NFL guys are available.

Question: If Auburn fires their coach, would you take him? He’s got a title (won with Cam), but he’s got the controversy from Cam, the recruiting violations allegations this year, and a record almost as bad as ours.

    9) He was inexperienced and a bad hire, but it’s tragic in that he loved the University and had injuries this year that hurt. If Max doesn’t go down, we probably win like 4-5 games. I’d still want him gone, mind you, but he didn’t have the best chance to stay alive, so to speak.

But neither do I excuse him for “only” getting 3 years since he was HCIW for a better team and recruited all the players.

    12) Pitino suffers from the BCG school of “You can’t work too hard in practice.” Pitino’s just a better recruiter and coach than BCG, not to mention not a drunk.

But it’s no coincidence that so many of his players get hurt. They’re working too hard in practice and probably not keeping enough body fat.

    19) Have you listened to callers into these shows? Half of them don’t know the latest internet chatter, half don’t understand how coaching hiring decisions are made, and half, like many of the online people, think Matt is just running interference for Mitch instead of pointing out what is and isn’t likely to happen.

3 halves for a reason – that’s about how many halves of good football we played this year.

  23. Han
    5:21 pm November 24, 2012 Permalink

    21) Nah, it’s very different. Defense depends greatly on field position, which depends on the offense. Defense gets tired if offense can’t stay on the field or turns it over. O-line can protect some QBs better than others.

Remember how Boyd and Max were early on? Again, we’d still have been crap this year because of our HC, OC and DC, but we would’ve looked better doing it.

Get your facts KY fans … Facts unfortunately “so-called independent” websites are failing to share with you

Mitch Barnhart has failed the University of Kentucky Football program. The cumulative record is his number. Fan attendance is his number.

Fans stopped going to the games as a message to the University that we no longer trust his leadership.

The numbers above should speak loud and clear. His discretion has failed and we know it.

Barnhart has been mediocre, at best, at football and basketball. 25’s numbers in football say it all. Brooks finished strong but his initial hiring was wrong. Morris deserved a better offer than he got. His job with the post Mumme team was the best coaching at UK since Jerry C’s days in the 1980’s. The mere hiring of BCG is enough to get someone fired. If he hires a loser this time in football he should be fired, period.

    31) Don’t bring Morris into it. Be left because of the sanctions, and what has he done since?

Mummy and his staff put us on probation, and while we supposedly were after Parseilles and may have been able to get Sean Payton, the Kentucky job wouldn’t have been super appealing at the time Mitch made the Brooks hire. Brooks never made us great, but he made a more solid-while-clean program than the guys before and Joker. We won the games we should have and pulled some huge upsets, not to mention the unprecedented-for-us bowl games in a row. Yes, cupcakes and longer schedule than say Bear had, but still, Brooks made us a lower-middle SEC team instead of a bottomfeeder. If we’d had a better coach than Joker, they might have built us into a top of the middle team that could do more with the right recruiting class.

I know he isn’t the sexy choice (apologies to all female, chubby-chasin’ Cats fans), but Fulmer IS the best man for the job NOW. Proven winner in the SEC. Puts together a great staff (per Matt Jones). Huge recruiting network; especially in the southeast. Will retire from UK in 5 or 6 years and leave the program better than he found it.

He’s the best of the bunch.

    37) BCG and Joker were bad hires. But don’t pretend Morris was Bear Bryant, and don’t pretend Brooks wasn’t our best football coach in a long time. He wasn’t Spurrier or Meyer, but he improved our program over time. Not as far as many of us wanted, though. Mitch foolishly thought Joker would be as good as Brooks without having any experience running a program.

    40) Matt’s right. He’s the Tubby of SEC football. Even if he has fire at first for a new job, he was slipping at Tennessee, arguably far more than Tubby did here. He would come here and win 5-7, mostly cupcakes. We might make 3 bowls in 5 years, but we will not be better than Brooks had us, most likely. Better than Joker, but not what fans want.

I really wish we’d won that game today. We needed that for morale. It would have eased the air of desperation that surrounds the fan base and put a little hop in our collective steps. Those pushing for Petrino aren’t really thinking clearly because they’re win-starved. It’s like gettin’ with Karen Sypher instead of putting in the time, money, patience, etc that is required to develop a relationship with a respectable woman. Sure, we’ll score with Petrino but who wouldn’t? The problem is that he’s a ho. Everybody knows it and the ramifications of an escapade with him could be detrimental to our program’s future. Something penicillin won’t fix. I think if we’d won that game today, it would’ve cleared our minds. When we start chasing Petrino, we need to take a step back, analyze our situation and realize that we just need to get laid. We’ll get past this dry spell…there are other fish in the sea

Many UK fans didn’t want another year of Joker, they saw the writing on the wall with 2 losing seasons in a row (6-7, 6-7).

Barnhart decided to give him another year. Why, you might ask? Because the plan was to give Joker at least 4 years total. Though if your not going to give him 2 more years (which Barnhart said would be necessary) then why give him half of what’s necessary? Either stick to your plan as a master of the program or step aside. He knew 1 more year (2012) would not be enough.

This is the decision of an AD that can’t even give his selected coach the time he knows is necessary to succeed. So in essence, the extra year was just a snub in the fans face, letting us know who’s in charge of a ship going into the ground (since he knew 1 year wasn’t enough).

WOW Matt got so caught up in spinning things pro Barnhart that he finished the show with “It’s been an excellent year” then caught himself, & corrected it.

Had to toss in the “football stadium renovations” there like some bone of prosperity for us to chew on.

What a joke. Barnhart has failed 42.

    Kentucky Football History (1881 — 2012)

UK Record Before Mitch Barnhart: 1881 — 2002

    Wins .. Losses .. Total Games .. % Won
    528 …….. 511 …….. 1039 ………. 50.82

UK Record Since Mitch Barnhart: 2003 — 2012

    Wins .. Losses .. Total Games .. % Won
    53 …….. 71 …….. 124 ………. 42.74

Kentucky fans deserve some reality checks. I believe in being positive but 9 years of results is plenty to see why Barnhart isn’t consistent in vetting coaching selections, and he can’t pick winners for football.

Barnhart wouldn’t even be here any longer had he not hired Calipari (the same coach he refused to hire 2 years earlier).

Confidence in that??? Are you on the payroll Matt? Who’s using the public University as a slush fund now?

    47. When the lawyer is greatly exaggerating the risk and not exactly know for having his facts straight you can certainly take him to task. There are legit reasons to not hire Petrino, but a lawsuit is the most absurd line of bs you’ll ever be fed. And Matt’s the guy who hired BTI, Corey Nichols etc so I’ll pass on his opinion when it comes to hiring practices.

What is an AD to be graded on to determine if he’s worth his salary?

3 Things & They Are Equally Important:

    1. Coaching Selection
    1. Fund Raising Ability
    1. Confidence in Future Ability (Based on Past & Current Responses To Responsibilities)

Now we can talk about the Olympic sports all we want but… they don’t happen if fundingisn’t in place.

    UK’s Funding Sources:
    1. Men’s Football
    2. Men’s Basketball
    3. I’m not sure on this now but for them last discussion of this (several years ago), none of the other sports break even.

    Barnhart Grade:
    – He made 1 hire that kept him in his job (and that was on the guy he refused to hire 2 years earlier – Calipari).
    – His fund raising ability is a D in SEC Athletics (in comparison to the other programs – peers).
    – Confidence? UK Football (the main funding sport) under his watch loses a significantly higher % of games than before he was hired (historically). He is faced with hiring a 3rd coach in 9 years.

Attendance is down 315% (Vandy @ Uk 2010 compared to Vandy @ UK 2012) and the athletic program is intentionally releasing inaccurate numbers to cover up for the loss…

You have confidence in people who have shown that they can do their jobs. You hired them for that ability. People make mistakes, and they pay the price for them.

Bobby Petrino is off Mitch Barnhart’s list for character issues, even though he has hired others who have major NCAA violations and significantly more questionable character issues (Dennis Erickson, BCG, Rick Brooks).

We’re not going to bunch Cal in with people who have direct NCAA records or off the court issues (since he doesn’t), yet Cal was the one guy Barnhart had a hard time hiring (and passed on in 2007).

He was single handedly responsible for sending our basketball program directly into the gutter (and it certainly sat there). Costs the University millions on the do over (payoff to BCG) and ends up hiring the guy he refused to hire before.

Here we are with an AD that lacks the ability to discern the weight of negatives when hiring a coach. We can’t continue to put this responsibility in the hands of someone who has lost the confidence of 70% of the football fans.

This isn’t a laboratory experiment. It’s our program. Make a stand and allow awareness of reality to set in. Our program deserves so much better than this inexperienced failure.
