Let see, so far on the show I’ve found out that Teague sucks, Kidd-Glichrist is not as good as everyone thought, and UK has no shooters but Lamb. Wow. Matt trying to prove he’s not a homer? Too late for that. Just keep pumping them up Matt.

Its funny to me that the City is doing this study when UK already did a study prior to the initiative to build a new Arena…also, Calipari will not play in L-ville if there is a renovation and a renovation is not possible due to its current construction and the renovations wanted…so a new arena is the only option, but that is a no go because it lacks funding…remember it was going to be self-funded, and Builder/Financier is not going to fit the bill in the current economy!

After the remodel, Thompson Boling Arena upper deck isn’t bad at all. I’ve watched several games up there with no complaints. Don’t get me wrong, we need a new arena. I’m just saying that renovations at Thompson Boling were successful. The luxury boxes are super nice too.

NEW ARENA – First, the whole “lets study this for 3 quarters and decide what we need to do” is PURELY 100% political. David Williams as KY State Senate President has been a big road block for UK getting bond money for athletics for years. State and local politicians do NOT want a new arena for UK to become a part of the gubernatorial campaign talk, so they use this “study” to put off any forward momentum until after the election. If/When Williams loses (and it looks like he’s going to lose), he has said that he will NOT run for reelection for his Senate seat. Once the election is over, THEN UK/Lexington can get the gears turning in the state legislature for bond money.

NEW ARENA DESIGN – Check out Kauffman Stadium where the KC Royals play. They have these neat things called dugout suites (something Coach Cal has mentioned in the past). These suites would, instead of sitting up between upper and lower arenas (therefore raising upper level seating higher) could be underneath/behind lower arena seating and open up to “private” lower arena or on-court seating. This would both preserve site lines as much as possible and give a new Rupp something VERY unique to not only college basketball arenas, but basketball arenas in general.

  51. RUPPS_rhetoric

The model for the arena exists and its in Louisville. Freedom hall sits 20,000+ has AMAZING SIGHT LINES even from the top row, and has luxury suites. You can make the arena 4,000 seats bigger; add 2K to the upper and 2K the lower, enlarge the concourses and you have a great arena with luxury suites that doesn’t feel huge. For all of Freedom Halls faults its a great place to watch a basketball game.
