Today is the kind of day that this blog was made for. Because Stacey Poole told Dustin late on Monday night that he would probably make his decision on Tuesday, today is officially hit refresh to find about Stacey Poole. Poole is down to Kentucky and South Carolina and he told Rumbaugh that he was still thinking between the schools. If you are only a casual follower of recruiting, you may know little about Poole, but you do know his dad, a guy who was a great player for Florida for a number of years. Poole is an explosive scorer, a guy who can take it to the basket and a very good fit for Calipari’s Dribble-Drive offense. He is the kind of player who can be a great piece of a top class and he would get the 2010 class started off right.
But I also have to say that one of the reasons I am hyped about Tuesday is it is an example of the power of the new internet media. Over the last few years, we have had these days 5 or 6 times a year, when the Big Blue Nation has collectively held their breaths, hit refresh on Kentucky Sports Radio and The Cats Pause and waited to see what would happen on a big story. The first mammoth such day was the day Billy Gilispie was hired, then the day Jai Lucas made his choice, followed by the day Patrick Patterson made his choice (still the most rabid, intense fan day that I have ever seen), the day Darius Miller made his call, Chris Singleton his decision, Daniel Orton after his visit, Billy Clyde being fired, John Calipari being hired and John Wall coming to Lexington. These are the days that make our server crash and will be the first test of our new look server (which I still expect to crash). But that crashing in and of itself is symbolic….it means big news is here and I will be ritually frustrated by the moment.
As always, you can sign up to the Kentucky Sports Radio Twitter feed for the initial update of when Poole pulls the trigger one way or the other. If the site goes down, that stays up and will give you the news instantaneously, especially if you have it set for text messages. Its a Wildcat or a Gamecock, and we will see what he chooses.
— One more non-Poole note. The news that CJ Leslie will be visiting UK two times, once for Midnight Madness is very big. Leslie is exactly the type of player that UK could use to fill a void next year and his talent level is immense. To come twice in two weeks suggests that his interest in UK is beyond high and he could be a great addition to the class. Watch how this develops, because it is a big positive development for the recruitment in this class.
Stay tuned…should be a fun day/night.
