Tubby wants to play Kentucky… in 2016

Tubby Smith wants a shot at his old team, according to the Pioneer Press. He just wants to wait until the Minnesota Vikings’ new football stadium opens up to do it.

That is four years from now.

Gophers men’s basketball coach Tubby Smith, during his tenure at Kentucky, coached the first basketball game played inside Detroit’s Ford Field, against Michigan State. Smith said he would love for Minnesota to play Kentucky inside the Vikings’ new stadium, which is scheduled to open in 2016.

“The sightlines were great,” Smith said of Ford Field. “It was one of the best venues for that type of arena, and you’ll find that will be the case here, and why you’ll see us get a Final Four here.”

Coach Cal, assuming he is still here, would love to break in a brand new state-of-the-art arena with his Kentucky Wildcats; it’s what he does. But who knows  where Minnesota will be in 2016? And will Tubby even be there?

Kentucky will have 32 new players in the NBA by then.

I have always liked Tubby Smith. That being said, I don’t think he will be there in 2016. Why not play before then?

Tubby still at Minnesota in 2016? Does anyone really think that is possible? If he is gone then I would say let’s go play. However, if he is still there, why would we want to get criticized for playing such weak opposition.

Tubby Smith and Kentucky basketball should never be mentioned in the same conversation.

It’d be a good idea, I think. Lots of big IF’s to get through until then though. Odds are we’ll have a few former players on the Timberwolves by then too. If all the hypotheticals, but I think it is a good idea.

“But who knows where Minnesota will be in 2016?”…

Isn’t it going to be just north of Iowa or are there plans to move it before then? If they are gonna move it I say go some place warmer.

Tubby will be lucky to be at Minnesota in 2 years, much less 2016

Why is everyone saying, “…assuming Cal is still here..” in their post? Cal squashed the roomers last month. Is there some new news?

2016 will be the next olympics after these. That is a long time to play ahead. But, I hope to see it.

#11 you can bet if he hasn’t he will be gone.Go read their fans message board. Just like our 6 years ago. Great person but not recruiting and to many players leaving. He on the same ground as Joker if he doesn’t win this year he’s gone.

I say schedule it. Yes, Tubby will likely, IMO, be retired by then, but we can put a big L on the Gophers regardless of who their coach might be.
