…with legal papers!
In what is becoming a trend for ex-coaches from the University of Kentucky, Tubby Smith found himself in a courtroom on Friday. Tubby, along with the Athletic Director of Minnesota, is being sued for fraud by Jimmy Williams.
The alleged story goes something like this: In the Summer of 2007, Tubby contacted Jimmy Williams to fill a spot on his bench as an assistant coach. As we all know, there is no faster track to success (Scott Rigot: Honorary Kenyan,) than to be an Assistant for the man they call Tubby. Williams jumped at the chance, prematurely resigned from his position at Oklahoma State, only to have Athletic Director Joel Maturi veto the deal due to NCAA violations that Williams may have played a part in during the 70s and 80s. Williams filed a law suit in October of 2007, and with the brilliant legal system that we have, found himself in court last Friday.
Essentially he’s suing them because he felt as though they mislead him into thinking he would have a job. I can’t begin to tell you if he has a case or not, we’ll leave that up to the Law Dog, but we can learn something from this whole thing. If you ever want someone to quit their job, offer them a spot on Tubby’s bench.
Hey Maggard, I hear Minneapolis has a nice stand up comedy scene. #wrongonpurpose
