Dont blink or all the recruiting for the 2011 class may be done and there will literally be nothing in the recruiting world to focus on until next summer. With Gilchrist and Teague in the fold and Quincy Miller a likely commit at a later time, Calipari would then only need two more positions to fill a starting five…and one may be about to pull the trigger. Trevor Lacey did an interview with Jody Demling in which he expressed that not only as Kentucky his leader, but if he had to pick today, it would be his school. The big quote is here:
“They have the top two players in my class but neither one plays my position,” Lacey said. “They are still looking for a shooting guard, so if no one else commits before I make my final decision that’s probably where I will be going to school.”
Pretty strong words for the young man that is ranked as the #28th best player by Rivals.com and the #40 best by Scout.com. He is likely competing with Tony Wroten for a potential scholarship and Calipari could have his choice between the two. Lacey seems to suggest that he could pull the trigger soon and if that happens, Kentucky will have another player from Alabama on its roster. Lacey is 6’4″ and I hear he is a very good shooter (I as of yet have not seen him play). Recently a source close to Calipari told me, “Cal is a guy who thinks that having a guy who can shoot who sticks around a while is good…you may see him try to get more guys that arent straight to the league at the SG position.” If so, Lacey may be that guy. There will only be one scholarship in 2011 (if that) that goes to a pure shooter…if Lacey wants it, then making a decision now might be in his best interest.
I am running the site all day today (my first full weekend day in over a year). So help me by coming on by during the day…we might even live blog with the Turkey Hunter later this afternoon. Enjoy the day.
