UKAthletics announced today that a few Kentucky football players have been named to various award ‘watch lists,’ heading into the season. Starting center Matt Smith was put on the Rimington Trophy 2011 watch list, an award that goes to the nations best center. Smith is a returning starter (he started every game last season,) and will be leading the Kentucky offensive line this season – what is believed to be one of the better units in recent history – giving him a chance to prove himself against a number of capable SEC defenses.
Both Danny Trevathan and Larry Warford were placed on the 2011 Rotary Lombardi Award watch list, an award that goes to the nations best lineman at the end of the season. Danny provided strong play to a mostly anemic defense last year and could benefit from the addition of the Nuclear Minter while Larry will be another piece of the great O-Lin for Kentucky. They join 16 other SEC members on the watch list.
Good to see the football cats getting a little acknowledgement before the season – now they just have to make sure they get it after the season, too.
