Trevathan named First Team All-SEC

The Associated Press published their All-Conference selections for the SEC today, and Danny Trevathan got a well-earned spot on the First Team. Trevathan led the SEC in tackles for the second straight season, registering 143 on the year after getting 144 last season. He tackled everything in sight, and while that wasn’t enough to garner much love for the Defensive Player of the Week awards during the season, it was good enough to earn him his second consecutive selection to the All-Conference First Team.

There were a couple of other Cats recognized by the AP, as well. Junior Larry Warford was named to the second team for his play on the offensive line, and Winston Guy received honorable mention recognition for a senior season in which he finished second in the SEC, behind only Trevathan, in total tackles.

One name that was notably absent from the release was that of UK punter Ryan Tydlacka, who had an outstanding season for the Cats. My only guess is that he was left off the ballot to give some other people a chance at the publicity, given Tydlacka’s status as a potential Heisman candidate, but we may never know. Regardless, congratulations to the trio of Wildcats that were commended by the AP. The recognition was well-deserved all the way around.

Tydlacka wasn’t even honorable mention?! I don’t want to get worked up over a punter, but he won us the Tennessee game. I can’t imagine there are two better punters than him in the league.

Wow we lose alot of guys on the d side of the ball, it’s going to be another long one. But if we beat florida it will ease the pain.

Ah never mind… Trevathan is going to go early and so will Guy. I think they will surprise @ the pro-day and NFL Draft camps. Trevathan 2nd round and guy 2nd-3rd, Tydlacka will go in the 4th round or earlier…

Congrats to Danny T – Very deserving!! Hard to believe Guy was not 2nd team; Tydlacka not making 1st or 2nd team is a joke.

The revised AP All-SEC list has Winston Guy on the 2nd team. Also Larry Warford on 2nd team offense.

Congrats to well-deserving Cats. Those 3 and Tydlacka will all make a nice living playing on Sunday. I think Trevathan will be a helluva pro.

Too bad we didn’t have Anthony David to guard Christian Laettner.
