Like everyone else in America, Kentucky Sports Radio is hopping on the Florida Gulf Coast bandwagon in the NCAA tournament. The Eagles have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen where they’ll face the Florida Gators on Friday evening, and we’ll be rooting for them to continue living the dream in the big dance.
On this morning’s radio show, Matt and Ryan will discuss FGCU’s improbable tourney run plus all the other happenings from the first weekend March Madness.

We need something to make the tournament more entertaining since UK is not in it and all of our rivals are doing well… maybe Chester will make another bet on Louisville not winning the tournament. Just had an argument with a buddy, wanted to see if Anyone else agrees with my POV:
Tubby should have been sent packing long before he was “forced out”. That title he won was a gift from rick. Look at how that team played. Fast paced, up and down the floor, pressing…etc. You could tell that Tubby just said, yall go play how Rick played and win me a title. Notice as soon as Tubby got HIS players, and HIS system implimented he didnt do crap. 4 overall #1 seeds and you cant get back to the final four? SEC titles are nice, but you cant hold Cal to the standard that only NCAA FF and Titles matter and not hold Tubby to the same standard. He knew that coming in. C’mon now, Getting beat by the likes of UAB, USC… Yes he had a couple good recruitng classes but that is cancelled out when you have recruiting classes consisting of Bobby Perry, Sheray Thomas, Orbzut and Shagari Alleyne. Averaging 10 losses over his last 5 seasons… I mean cmon, the man chokes when it comes to the “big tournament”…I cant stand it when ppl say Tubby is a “better than average” coach… UGA had come off of 2 sweet 16 appearances and tubby never got back there during his tenure at UGA…so spare me the “tubby is a good coach” talk. I have never and will never buy into that. EVER.

Henderson may be one of the worst “good 3 pt shooters” of all time. He shoots his team out of the game, still only hits like 35%, and plays awful defense. And he’s a headcase.

I was at the UL game Saturday. Everything that has ever been said about UL fans is absolutely true. I’ve never seen so many neck tattoos, gold chains, and line beards in my life. 3 showers later and I still feel dirty.

31 — I disagree that he “shoots his team out of the game.” He won the SEC Tournament for his team and was a big part of beating Wisconsin. Ole Miss’s offense was totally based around Marshall and him shooting the ball. It allowed openings for other players on the team and totally opened up offense for the team in their winning stretch here late.

57- If you had to interact with their fans, you’d feel different. U of L fans are like Cubs fans. They feel like their team is one of the best year in and year out and haven’t won a damn thing thing in years.
One game I really look forward to watching is Indiana/Syracuse. I don’t know about you all, but I fully expect Syracuse to win and cause Indiana fits with their length.

69 — Yeah, I just want to see one of these teams figure out a way to complete the in-bounds pass — against their press — without a lot of stress. Louisville is turning teams over like crazy off that in-bounds pass and then the subsequent pass when they are trapped on the sideline.

81- Wisconsin played majority zone against IU and really affected them, because of their length…playing against a zone with 6’0 guards is one thing, playing against 6’6 guards is a completely different deal.

Syracuse goes through long scoring droughts…it makes me very skeptical of their chances to win.
Even if the dirty birds win the title this year (their third), they will still be little brother and win an ncaa title AFTER big brother. 🙂
If Syracuse can keep it to a half-court game they will be fine. Their 2-3 zone does a good job of extending and making things difficult for outside shooters. Louisville’s offense really struggled against them for the first half of the Big East final, and Louisville didn’t really get open outside shots until the second half when they began to turn Syracuse over and speed up the game.

Anybody watch Miami/Illinois last night? That was a fantastic game. Miami just barely advanced to the Sweet 16, but I think they handle Marquette and will have a chance this weekend to play for the Final 4.

87. True, but IU’s two out of the three biggest 3 point shooting threats are 6’4″ and 6’9″ in Watford and Oladipo. IU’s shooters aren’t the usual small guard size either. You hear about the Cuse 2-3 all the time, but I’ve never really seen it be outrageously effective for them. I’ll believe it when I see it.

99- Wrong, IU’s biggest 3pt threats are Hulls, Watford and Oladipo.
Hulls (6’0)- will have trouble shooting over MCW and Triche, and is a huge liability defensively
Watford (6’9) – will be going against another 6’9 guy
Oladipo (No where near 6’4/ barely 6’3) – will be shooting over someone that has AT LEAST 2 inches on him.

105. How is my comment wrong? You said the exact same thing I just said. LOL. I said Watford and Oladipo were 2 of the 3 best outside shooters on IU’s team. I didn’t personally measure Oladipo, so I just took ESPN’s word for it that he was 6’4″. I don’t see Cuse’s zone posing that much of a threat to IU unless they don’t shoot well. Not saying they won’t beat the Hoosiers, just don’t think their zone will be much of a factor if they do.

As a life long UK fan I cannot force myself to support Lville and don’t know why I should try. I am too old for character building exercises. It would be like forcing myself to eat a food that makes me sick to my stomach. Again, it is not the players for the most part. It is Pitino, Jurich, and the fans that I cannot stomach. Were they to win it, all 3 components will be insufferable. Pitino was forced last year to make nice with UK in the final four knowing they would lose to UK and the national spotlight was on him. This year he thinks he has a championship in the bag and will continue his subtle digs at UK and Cal. When UK hired Cal and he had so much instant success, Pitino rose from his crypt. His ego is just too big to not respond to the challenge. Jurich is just a turd in turdlenecks. Fan are obnoxious and not very basketball savvy. They always root against UK no matter what.

That crash statistic is true but it’s ‘faulty.’ Think about it, any drive you take you will be driving close to your house. ie. 50% of your drives are 20 miles away, 75% of your drives are at least 10 miles away, 95% of your drives are at least 5 miles away, and 99% are 1/4 mile away. So statistically you are most likely to wreck in that 1/4 miles because, no matter the trip, you are driving in that range. I hope that makes some sense.

I do think UCLA will try for a big enchilada this time around to stabelize the program, a war horse instead of young colt. Pitino certainly fits that category although Jurich will mortgage the school if he has to so it would not be a money issue. Wouldn’t be a bad thing for your legacy to resurrect both UK and UCLA from the ash heap before you retire. California is a race horse state so he could continue his hobby. His wife would enjoy Beverly Hills. Could bring Richard back as a recruiter and assistant, firmly planting as his successor. They will probably pursue Izzo as well.

Why is hatred of other Kentucky teams such a litmus test for Kentucky fandom? I don’t get that. Maybe if I grew up in another town besides Louisville I would understand the animosity. But that’s the university that represents my hometown. Not my favorite team, but not one I hate.
I love Kentucky basketball — as in UK basketball — but also as in any brand of basketball that comes from our state. The reason I rooted for Georgetown in the NAIA tournament is the same reason I root for Louisville when they’re not playing us. Also, I like the way Rick’s teams usually play. I liked it 20 years ago, and I like it now. I ain’t hatin’.
How about the Colonels? Did you root for them in the ABA, or did you hate them because they were from Louisville? It’s the same thing. I know we play them in a huge rivalry game, and for that game I root like the dickens for Louisville to get beat. But after that I wish them well. It’s like Eddie said, they’re Little Brother. You give your little brother a hard time, but you don’t hate on him when he’s taking on somebody else.
I can respect people who don’t see it that way. Why can’t you respect me to see it this way? It doesn’t lessen my fervor for Kentucky basketball one bit, and I don’t need you questioning that just because I also want to see my hometown’s school do well, too.
Now, when it comes to Indiana — I hate Indiana. I hate Tennessee. That makes sense — I’ve never lived in either of those places. I don’t hate Arkansas, even though I have to live with a lot of Kentucky-hatin’ Arkansas fans who give me gruff every day. I don’t hate Arkansas, but when it comes down between us and them, I’m with UK. And I make that clear everywhere I go.
That’s the same way as Louisville for me, and it’s really troubling to me that hatred of another school that represents our state has to be part of rooting for my team. To me, that’s crazy. But I guess I’m the only one.

92}I officiated summer tourneys at this campus and there is a lake/pond there and they have sand there making it look like a beach but it is not actually on the beach. Can be on Ft. Myers Beach in 15 minutes or less and several others in area…Sanibel island etc.
