Top 5 Perimeter Defenders In The Draft

The fine people over at The Bleacher Report ranked the top 5 perimeter defenders in the draft. It’s no surprise that DeAndre Liggins made the list, but Brandon Knight is in the top five as well. By my calculations, that means 40% of the best perimeter defenders in the draft came from Kentucky. We run this.

Here’s what it said:

DeAndre Liggins

DeAndre Liggins better be great defensively, because he’s NOT offensively.

Takes great pride in his defense and always seems to be in the right place at the right time. His huge wingspan combined with solid lateral quickness makes him the top perimeter defender in the 2011 NBA draft class.

Brandon Knight

A clutch performer offensively, unwavering performer defensively. Very smart defender who uses his quick feet and long arms to stay in front of his man, contest shots and deny penetration.

Someone please, please, please take DeAndre in the first round. Pleeeaassssseeeee

Knight a good defender? Did I miss something last season? Thought he was a liability for us defensively.

6- when did Knight EVER have a poor defensive outing? Liggins guarded every “beast” we played. I don’t ever recall Knight being a liability. So yes, you must have missed a good portion of the season. #TARD

#7, you might be able to find good stuff on bleacher report. But anyone can put something up. This list was made by some University of Washington student. You may as well publish a list I put on some message board somewhere.

Knight was awful defensively all year. Forget, talking about him getting torched by good players…if you watched the Boston U game(which, I realize UK won by 34)…Knight looked absolutely terrible on the little white kid that came off the bench. He was #2, and had like 13 or 14 points off the bench with Knight checking him. He definitely has the ability to be a good defender, but his positioning and lateral movement on defense was the worst on UK’s team. Once again, not saying Knight can’t learn to be a good defender, but that is def where he needs work. Also, this shows why you shouldn’t go to bleacher report for legit sports stories.

ATTN BBN: ESPN Poll on todays headline NCAA BBall page. In SportsNation Poll lower left. Involves opinion of NCAA forcing UK to alter Cal’s win total. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/

I wonder who Deandre would contribute lighting his fuse for defensive ferociousness.

BCG or CAL or both? For some reason I have a feeling that if there were 2 good things BCG could be credited for it would be waking up Joe Crawford (confirmed) and possibly being the initial catalyst in Liggins defensive fire (unconfirmed).

Oh I almost forgot, BCG could also be credited for the pink panties left on the 9th flag at Griffin Gate.

Go to the Wall/Cousins season and watch UK vs. UCONN. Kemba Walker was crossed over and pass by John Wall repeatedly. Kemba has an awful game, and a mediocre season.

Then go to the Maui Classic last year when Kemba was the one of fire passing Knight on both sides on his way to the glass. Knight looked like a deer in the headlights.

Then watch as Knight matured throughout the season.

It was a similar transformation, just one player need an extra year to get there.

I know Gilchrist is supposed to be a defensive beast, but I hope Cal finds somebody else (Poole?) also willing to take that role on this year’s team.
