Tony Delk officially named NMSU assistant

Roy Roper

I mentioned it in the links this morning, but today New Mexico State University said that Tony Delk would be leaving Kentucky and joining Marvin Menzies’ staff as an assistant for the Aggies.

Menizes, a former U of L assistant, said of Delk:

The hiring of coach Tony Delk will give us instant credibility with not only our current players but with recruits that are familiar with all of his NBA accolades and not to mention his national championship at Kentucky. Tony is a very high character individual, who will undoubtedly bring a lot of positives to the program and assist us in our goals of winning a WAC Championship and competing deep into the tournament.

Good luck, Tony. We hope to see you in a head coaching spot soon.

Go Aggies!

NMSU isn’t the end of the world its just 50 miles to the west of it so expect Tony to be gone as quickly as possible but until then with Hawaii, Nevada, Boise St and Fresno St leaving NMSU has a good chance to rule the WAC.

Hate to see him go, but can’t wait to see him get a head coaching job at a decent school. Good luck TD.

TD was making $23,000 at UK. He saw no room to move up so I don’t blame him. All the former UK players that Cal brought back (Padgett, Delk, Turner) don’t make much at all under Cal. I’ve actually been told by a couple of them that they aren’t “Cal’s Guys” so he wont look out for them. Mercer noticed that quickly which is why he left during his first year.

I always like it when people say things anonymously and lie about talking to people they have not only ever met, but couldnt even get into the same room wit if they had to. I mean, I am no more important than anyone else, but at least I know it and dont make crap up about people.
