Tom Brady’s Sunday News and Views

While August 3rd may just be another day on the calendar for a majority of Americans, for two men in this land of ours, this date holds much more significance. First, August 3rd is National Watermelon Day, and there’s no doubting that Gallagher is breathing heavily over the of hundreds of Citrullus lanatus he senselessly murdered today. Secondly, an Ugg-wearing American is celebrating his 36th birthday today, and that American is Tom Brady.

Whether you love Tom Brady or can’t stand the thought of him, one must admit that he’s one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the professional game. With 44,806 passing yards, 334 touchdowns, 3 Super Bowl victories, 2 Super Bowl MVPs, and 2 NFL MVPs, it’s damn near impossible to find a player with a similar résumé. Of course, given all of the on-field accolades and success, it’s a general rule of thumb that the off-field recognition is never far away, and Tom Brady is no exception to this rule. He’s currently married to Brazilian model, Gisele Bündchen, and is the cover boy for Ugg Boots, the Australian shoe company which makes those stylish boots pictured above. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Tom Brady is worth a cool $120 Million, which is more than peasants like you and I can even dream of making in ten lifetimes. So here’s to you Tom, may your 36th birthday be a happy and healthy one and may you score many fantasy points for me this year.

On to the news on a very slow news day in the world of Kentucky sports.

-Kentucky commit, and everyone’s favorite KSR writer, Drew Barker, tweeted out a picture of his official scholarship offer from Mark Stoops and the University of Kentucky today. They say that you should be cautious of high school athletes and their commitments before they arrive on campus, however, I think it’s safe to assume that Barker shows up on campus when the time finally arrives. Call it the most obvious hunch ever.

-Not to be outdone by Drew Barker, Matt Elam, the uncommitted 5-star (247 Sports) Defensive Tackle from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, tweeted his official scholarship offer from the University of Kentucky as well. In addition to his offer from Stoops and company, Elam also tweeted out his offers from Nick Saban and Urban Meyer. The following offers from Alabama and Ohio State are pictured below.

-While optimism around the football program is at an all-time high in Lexington right now, Saturday Down South reminds us that the road to football recovery will be a long and winding one. In the “Crystal Ball” series, where SDS predicts game-by-game outcomes for every team, they predicted a 3-9 record for Mark Stoops’ first squad with wins over Western Kentucky, Miami (OH), and Alabama State. Call me crazy, but I’m thinking the Cats have what it takes to knock off an SEC opponent this year.

Tickets are still available for the up-coming 2013 Kentucky Alumni Charity Game. There’s an eight ticket limit per person and prices range from $5 to $50 dollars depending upon the quality of your seat. The event is slated for September 9th and all proceeds go to charity.

-Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve most likely heard that John Wall signed a 5-year, $80 million extension with the Washington Wizards. When you make that kind of money as a point guard, there’s no avoiding the comparison to the leagues’s other elite floor generals. In Friday’s interview with Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, he was asked where he would rank himself among the leagues best point guards, Wall said the following. “I rank myself the best.”

Of course, it’s easy to see why Wall thinks he’s the best point guard when he performs stunts like this. Someone must have taped a cheetah to his back, or edited the video, but I’m going with a cheetah taped to his back. Nope, no video editing funny business going on here at all.

First, you guys talk almost non-stop about football and forget that the majority of your fans follow for the basketball interaction. I hope the football team does well! But, you gotta start showing some love to the folks that made ya!

And now, you have the gall to wish some slimebag like TB a happy birthday!

Screw you guys and Tom Brady! You can both suck on my sack!

I bet you won’t keep this on here for very long either!

13, what are they supposed to write about??? No players are on campus. All the high school recruits are getting ready to start back to school. If this site did nothing but basketball, they could shut down for 3 months a year. If you don’t like it, then get the F out!

Really? No basketball? Are you new to KSR? Are you really complaining about TOO MUCH football coverage?
How have you arrived at your conclusions regarding Brady’s character? Is it because he is REALLY good, REALLY wealthy or because any woman you might be lucky enough to converse with, prefers to watch Brady, rather than you?
    Oh, btw: Classy.

13- you sir are an idiot. What exactly makes Brady a slimebag? Other than you not liking the patriots I’m guessing

    16. Guess you haven’t been around very long. The fact is that when the football team wasn’t doing so well “back in the day”, they still found basketball to write about. Now that football is beginning to pick up speed, basketball is taking a backseat. By the way, there are other UK sites that write much more about basketball everyday even in the slow months. Maybe this site IS for you puppies that don’t know much!

You “got us”? Please elucidate your position.
We all know why KSR seldom spoke of football in the past….it was bad for ratings. Bad for BBN morale and generally, bad for one’s soul.
Now that we have more than a gljmmer of actually building a competitive football program, the statewide excitement is incredible and it is less than one month from FOOTBALL season. Those seem like reasonable considerations when deciding what sport to cover more heavily in AUGUST….

People love to hate the Pats, mostly because they win….a lot. Sound familiar, as a UK BBall fan?

    10:12 am August 4, 2013 Permalink

    23. I think you have confused my “position”. As I said earlier, I hope the football team does well. But, the site could do a little better at covering basketball. As for them not covering football as much in the past, you make it sound as if KSR is in it for the money! Bad ratings?? Sounds connected to dollars. If that’s what KSR is about, then I guess I’ve misjudged this site.

Oh and, the Pats and Brady don’t hold the trophy for most Superbowl wins either! Just thought you’d like to be “educated” on that fact as well!

“Whether you love Tom Brady or can’t stand the thought of him”? I had no idea people didn’t like him. I just asked my girlfriend, and she called him an “alleged hottie.” That’s funny.

I’m tired of writers beginning sentences this way. “Regardless of whether you think Calipari is one of the dirtiest coaches in the game …” Or the more subtle, “Say what you will about Calipari …” What is that? It’s non-accusatory accusation. It’s a secondary smear. It’s like you want to apologize up front for saying something nice about the guy. And it’s gutless: you’re unwilling to tell us what YOU think. It’s also contextually irksome because it has nothing to do with the point you’re trying to make, namely, that Brady is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. Just say it. Because it’s true.

Say what you will about Stalin, he had a good head of hair.

24- no one ever said the pats had the most superbowls, and if you dislike this so much why do you keep coming back? Just don’t visit the site until basketball season, people are excited about football as any real UK fan would be, let me guess you’re one of those guys that just roots for the best team in each sport, you’re probably a UK basketball fan and a Ohio st football fan or something
