For the 10th time, the NASCAR Monster Energy Series takes to Kentucky Speedway this afternoon for the Quaker State 400. I know I am not in the minority of not being as big of a NASCAR fan as I once was, but I know for certain I will be tuned into this evening’s race.
Last year, Kyle and Kurt Busch had a battle for the ages, with Kurt edging out his younger brother at the line. Could we see one of the Busch brothers continue their dominance at the track? Could Jimmie Johnson beat COVID-19 one week and the next win a race? You can watch the race at 2:30 pm this afternoon on FS1.
Now onto the other news you need to know to start your Sunday:
SEC Commissioner not optimistic about college football
By far the most disheartening news from yesterday came from SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey.
Speaking on ESPN Radio’s Marty and McGee, Sankey said, “I don’t feel any pressure because of somebody else’s decisions. We’re trying to make the right decisions for us, for the Southeastern Conference. It does have an impact because I’ve said publicly we’re all linked nationally, so when other people make decisions, yup, there’s an impact, but also we’re going to look at our situation and make a decision that’s appropriate for the Southeastern Conference and most importantly for the health of our student-athletes.”
Later, he added to his point on Twitter:
Yep…that’s exactly what I said…and have been saying. I want to provide the opportunity for college athletics to be part of the fall, but we need to all consider our behavior to make possible what right now appears very difficult. “The direct reality is not good…” https://t.co/z3pHGeMIa9

“The direct reality is not good.” That does not sound good.
As much as fans might want college football in the fall, colleges have to keep the health of players in mind. Think of it this way, what if, God forbid, a star player, or really any player, gets very sick because they played. Is it really worth it?
I am lucky I don’t have to make that decision.
Kash Daniel and Jamin Davis go fishing
I can count on one hand the number of times I have been fishing in my life. Everyone has their niche and that is just not my cup of tea.
It is no secret that former Kentucky football player Kash Daniel is a massive outdoorsman and loves to fish. In fact, we have seen multiple instances where Daniel takes someone who has never been fishing or hunting out with him.
In order to celebrate moments like that, the former linebacker has created a new show on YouTube called “Off SZN.”
The first episode came out yesterday with Daniel and Jamin Davis. Give it a watch below:
Art Collector wins Blue Grass Stakes
While mechanical horsepower is taking over the northern portion of the commonwealth this weekend, natural has made its mark on Keeneland.
In the crown jewel of Keeneland’s summer meet, Art Collector won the Blue Grass Stakes to claim a spot in September’s Kentucky Derby.
Rewatch the race here:
What a performance by ART COLLECTOR in the G2 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes @KeenelandRacing! Fantastic effort by Swiss Skydiver to finish 2nd. Congrats to connections rider @b_hernandezjr, Trainer Thomas Drury, Jr. and Owner Bruce Lunsford!@SpendthriftFarm #RoadtoTheDerby pic.twitter.com/b8XsPKyjbC

KSR County by County tour continues tomorrow
KSR’s county by county tour through the state continues this week with Hardin County taking the reigns on Monday. The full schedule for the week:
- Monday – Hardin
- Tuesday – Harlan
- Wednesday – Harrison
- Thursday – Hart
- Friday – Henderson
This might be the first full week that I can legitimately say that I have been to all five of the counties. In fact, I have seen sporting events in all of them except Harrison. Harlan County might still take the cake of the nicest high school football stadium in the entire state. Seriously, if you know more about it, call into the show on Tuesday and talk about it. It was beautiful when I was there back in 2012.
Best Thing I Saw this Week
If there is one thing I have tried to do during the pandemic, it is find something that makes me smile every day. I would like to share this again with you this week.
Today, I give you the toddler who gets caught trying to take a snack when she wasn’t supposed to. How does she handle it? Pretending to be asleep, of course. Seriously, if you haven’t seen this, give it a watch. It will put a smile on your face.
That’s the news you need to know to start your Sunday. Have a great day and go Cats!
