Today on KSR: Ls Down Forever; Cats take down Cards in Overtime

Other than a big win in the second or third weekend in the NCAA tournament, there is no better feeling than that of beating Louisville. The Kentucky Wildcats did just that in a 78-70 victory over the Cardinals on Saturday to snap their two game losing streak.

Here are the stories you need to start your Sunday:

‘Maxey Man’ finds shot; wins MVP of game

For Kentucky to be successful against Louisville, Tyrese Maxey had to step up and have a game similar to what he did against Michigan State. The freshman stepped up in a big way for the Cats in the win. He finished with 27 points and 7 rebounds. That line all goes without mentioning that he was an impressive 4-5 from beyond the arc.

If Maxey can grow on this moving into SEC play, this game could truly become a turning point for this team moving forward.

Nick Richards w/ best game as Cat

The other player that really needed to step up in a big way was junior Nick Richards. Boy did he ever. Richards finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds in the game and also took two massive charges down the stretch.

The stat that stands out the most was his +/-. That number was +16 which was far and away the game high. For those that don’t know, that statistic shows what the point swing was when he was on the floor. Typically, players that have the highest +/- have the best game, because it factors in defensive stops as well.

Isaac Humphries sings National Anthem

Before the game even started, former Cat Isaac Humphries wowed the crowd with a performance of the National Anthem. I might not be an expert on UK Basketball history, but this might have been the first time a former player sang the national anthem.

Two Days until Cats vs. Hokies

Britney Howard | UK Athletics

We are now only two days away from kickoff from the Belk Bowl between Kentucky and Virginia Tech. The Cats will look to spoil the retirement party for Hokie defensive coordinator Bud Foster and pick up their second straight bowl win.

Yesterday, the team took a trip to the NASCAR track to take rides. Marquan McCall gave us this great moment below as he tried to fit into one of the standard size stock cars.

Two days can’t come soon enough!

Future Cincinnati Bengal and current LSU Tiger Joe Burrow wowed the fans in attendance in Atlanta as he accounted for 8 total touchdowns in the Tigers blowout win over Oklahoma.

Ed Orgeron’s team will now travel to their home state to play the National Championship game against the Clemson Tigers. Clemson scored with under two minutes to go and intercepted a Justin Fields pass in the end zone in the closing minute to defeat Ohio State 29-23.

Clemson will look for their second straight title in New Orleans coming up on January 13th.

This team played with a lot of heart and emotion. Seeing Nick and EJ exude that emotion is something that they have to do in order to play well. You have to get into it and some of our best teams were the most into it. I can remember the team two years having little to no emotion out there, they were just boring to watch other than PJ mean mugging. I hope this serves as a huge confidence boost for these guys.

What makes you think Mike Brown will put out the cash for Burrow?

Common sense would tell you it’s because Andy Dalton sucks. But it’s Mike Brown we’re talking about here, so you might be right.
