While the people of Louisville hit the track for the city family reunion (otherwise known as Kentucky Oaks Day), the real UK fans are ready for an even bigger April 30, Terrence Jones Decision Day. Last night I did the Barnstorming Event and then spent the drive back working the phones trying to find out the scoop. What is clear is that no one is FOR SURE what will happen, but here are the three themes that have emerged:
1. People around UK are cautiously optimistic. No one is certain what he will do but there is a feeling that Jones is headed for the Big Blue around the Lexington scene.
2. National recruiting folks wont predict, but believe Kentucky is in better shape than they were two weeks ago. The national consensus has quietly been Washington for some time, but as one told me last night, “I wouldnt be surprised at all if he picked Kentucky.”
3. Calipari has invested a lot in this kid and rarely loses those he covets. Terrence Jones has become priority 1A (With Brandon Knight being priority 1) since Calipari became enamored with Jones a few months ago. They want him badly and believe that if he picks the Big Blue, the Cats will be set up to be very good again next season. Plus it is likely that Jones is not a one and doner, meaning he could be part of a 2011 team that has a chance to be truly special. They want Jones…a lot.
The decision is at 6:30 tonight and we will have a LIVE BLOG beginning at 6 pm. If word leaks all day, we will let you know. Otherwise it is just sitting back, reading about the Barnstorming event, Eric Bledsoe causing a minor flood in the Craft Center and other nonsense for the day as we enjoy the great weather and await another high schooler’s decision. Life is strange.
