Today is the day for Enes Kanter

free-enes-rockets

As mentioned on the radio show this morning, it appears that Thursday is Appeal Day for Enes Kanter.  Enes will put on his nicest black trenchcoat, his finest gray leather gloves and his best hat before again statintg his case to an NCAA Appeals Committee today in an effort to get his eligibility restored.  A ruling could come as soon as this afternoon or as late as Monday.  Banner #8 could follow soon thereafter.

It was always safe to assume that the NCAA agreed to not publicly announce that he was denied the 2nd time around. That way, they don’t have to again announce he’s ineligible and THEN announce it’s going to appeals, just like the first time. No need to be so redundant. I always figured that the next “decision” we heard, would be the last.

In order to present new information, UK had to start over. The new information could not be presented to the appeals commitee unless they started at step 1. The original decision of permantently ineligible has always stood firm. But again, to be able to present new info to the appeals commitee, they had to start from square one.

  27. Gary Busey
    12:16 pm January 6, 2011 Permalink

Here’s an explanation from Jeff Goodman:
    http://msn.foxsports.com/collegebasketball/story/NCAA-to-rule-on-Kentucky-freshman-Enes-Kanter-appeal-010611

Seems like the original appeal was denied and then there was additional information that UK presented. Therefore, this whole process after the “new information” has still been part of the appeal process.

After all the rulings this years, how would the NCAA justify not making him eligible for college basketball? I just feel bad when you do everything right to the best of your knowledge and NCAA turns around and rules that you can’t play. Then we have people making money off there kids, accepting money from agents and selling your own merchandise and NCAA rules that you just sit out a few games.

May or may not have talked to someone in the General Counsel’s office for the NCAA. Do not expect good news if the NCAA has a shred of influence over the appellate board. They believe Kanter is a “pro” in every sense of the word, regardless of the number of minutes played or what the money was used for. Don’t shoot the messenger.

If any one contacts these people in any way, I would say it actually hurts our chances, not helps. Please do not contact them. Put yourself in their shoes. As a UK fan (administrator), you are about to rule on the Ohio State tattoo situation and a bunch of Ohio State fans start contacting you saying:
    a) our players didn’t do anything wrong
    b) they are really are nice guys and really want to be good college athletes
    c) I’ll kick your ass if you rule against us
    d) any of the above
I would venture to say you would be more likely to rule against them instead of sympathetic to the situation. Right now, they may actually be sympathetic to Enes, but if they get even one crazy fan trying to communicate with them, they may turn bitter and want to wash their hands of the situation.

News won’t come before Monday after all the football is done, with negative results Enes, Sorry the NCAA is penalizing a kid with different rules then others are allowed to play by.

In a chariot of light from the regions of day,
    The Goddess of Liberty came;
Ten thousand celestials directed the way
    And ENES entered the game!!!!!!!

What will become of the Enes Kanter situation at Kentucky…local reports point to a decision in the near future. Based on the Cam Newton ruling, albeit, in another sport, can they ethically deny him eligibility once again?

The decision is supposed to come today, according to a story I read by Jeff Goodman. I have no information on the decision, but my gut tells me that the NCAA will not reinstate him. I think he should be allowed to play immediately, and believe that his suspension was a mistake. Reasonable minds can differ, but that kid did not do anything to show intent to professionalize. In fact, he turned away from pro money. Riddle me this. How can Clemson QB Kyle Parker be an amateur when he plays professional baseball and is a millionaire, but Kanter, at worst, took school expenses and is a professional? The kid wants to go to school and play. We should not put up an artificial barrier in his way, or anyone else’s. Just one man’s opinion.

Kentucky is young again but this team lacks the ego of last years freshman core, do you see Coach Cal putting them together for a deeper run?

I continue to be amazed by Kentucky and the job that John Calipari does with such young players and teams. Most coaches struggle with freshmen, but Cal seems to be able to get them to play like upperclassmen in a hurry. I thought that UK would struggle with Louisville (with Buckles playing), but the Cats crushed them. If Kanter played, UK would be a Final Four contender. Without him, they are an Elite Eight team that could make a Final Four with a break or two. Pretty impressive, really.

It’s time to just bypass NCAA and take it to the court. Someone really needs to stand up to NCAA and say enough is enough. They have cornered themselves in a such a way I doubt any judge would side with them.

i think he will get to play because the appeal commitee are different people and they have been known to see things differently and allow players to play . so theres a realy good chance

Why does everyone keeps saying this is the second appeal? I thought we held back on the appeals process in light of ‘new information’ after the Newton’s ruling and re-filed the case. If the NCAA appeals committee already upheld once I doubt they will rule otherwise is just my guess. I really hope they are separate group that has not played a part in the original ruling. I would accept the ruling if the NCAA would not play bias on some cases like the Sydney, Newton, Selby, and recent Ohio State players cases. I really think this is the reason Kanter family should really take this to the court.
