Your favorite local sportswriter Jerry Tipton reports the grades of the UK basketball team are the lowest since 2002. The team had a cumulative grade point average of 2.025 for the fall semester. Calipari’s team posted the worst grades of all UK athletic teams and was among the lowest in the SEC.
“I was disappointed,” UK President Lee T. Todd Jr. said recently.
According to Tipton and the Herald-Leader, the UK players’ individual GPAs in the fall semester ranged from 3.59 to 1.667 and four were 2.0 or lower. Two were better than 3.0 (Nice work, Krebs.)
“It’s not something we’re happy with, I’ll tell you that,” said Sandy Bell, UK’s senior associate athletic director and the person in charge of student services. “And we’ll be working on it to get it up. We certainly anticipate that going up in the spring.”
As fans we give Tipton a hard time for constantly shining a negative light on Kentucky basketball, but this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. It’s all fun watching the Cats dominate on the court, but they have to start “getting s— right” in the classroom, too.
