According to Jerry Tipton, Marquis Teague will be unable to attend UK’s Big Blue Madness next weekend. What at first might seem to be extremely bad news for UK’s pursuit of Teague, turns into only fairly bad news when the reason for the change of schedule is revealed. It seems that Shawn Teague, Marquis’ father, has to work on the Friday of Big Blue Madness and therefore getting Marquis on campus would be extremely difficult.
“It would be very difficult for me to get him there,” Teague’s father told Tipton. “We were talking about doing it but it doesn’t work out.”
One is left to assume that Teague will be eventually taking his visit to Kentucky but the scheduling conflict definitely has to be a disappointment for Kentucky’s staff. Teague had been thought to be a UL lean for most of the summer but Kentucky’s involvement seemed to cause the young point guard to extend his decision much further than most assumed he would. Most recently, Shawn Teague told the Indy Star, “We really don’t have a timeline anymore.” The elder Teague explained that Marquis would like to watch the teams that are recruiting him compete through the season in order to get a more accurate assessment of who he would be playing with and what style of play each team would use.
Each extension seemed to make Kentucky, a late comer into Teague’s recruitment, look better and better. Midnight madness certainly looked to be a major opportunity for Kentucky to solidify themselves as the leader for Teague’s services. Now it looks like UK will have to wait for a different opportunity in order to make their mark. While this definitely wasn’t something that Kentucky wanted to hear, something tells me this staff will Bounce Back (your welcome Coach) and find another way to wow the nation’s top point guard prospect in the 2011 class.
