Makes me miss Tubby! This team was excellent. Played great defense, and the interior guys could really pass well. A lot of fun to watch.

Those were the good times. We had a team with heart and played sound fundamental team basketball on offense and defense. (No offense to the current team)

Does anyone remember the Fat Tuesday comeback against Florida? I was there for the game (actually 12 rows behind the bench) but can’t remember the year. If I remember correctly, we were down by 15ish pts and came back to win. It was a Fat Tuesday game I remember because we all have Hawaiin Leis(spelling??)around our necks. Great game to watch!

I hate all of you guys, everyone making comments about how great a coach i was probably werent saying it a few years ago when i left. Coach Cal is the coach now and if your not careful what you say you could run him off to, so why dont you all just shut your mouth and be a little more patient. A loss to Ole Miss in basketball isnt the end of the world, get over it and move on, come Saturday i am sure Coach Cal will have the boys ready……..Go Cats, atleast you didnt lose to the Hoosiers like my Golden Gophers did last night

Do you think Coach Cal is capable of mounting such a comeback??? Tubby was a great coach and Cal is a great recruiter. It’s a shame Tubby couldn’t have just brought Cal on as a recruiter.

Was it in 77 Auburn had NBA Eddie Johnson and we beat them so bad Johnson just quit and walked off the floor during the second half… Uk won by 43?

That was the last team Tubby had that had solid NBA caliber players on it, though. Hayes, Bogans, are still in the league, and Fitch and Daniels flirted with it and are still playing. Cliff Hawkins was as good a lock down defender as we’ve ever had. Tubby’s problem wasn’t coaching, he just didn’t have the will to go get the players. Had he had the recruiting skills, he could still be here today. If I recall correctly, that team won 26 straight games, but they did it with juniors and seniors. If the current team stays together for three years, imagine what they could become… It’ll never happen, but wouldn’t that be glorious?

GD! What a game! Sat in the governor’s seats, right behind Paul Patton’s brother. My bro and I were so incredibly excited for the game. Remember some older guy tugging on my shirt in warm-ups saying we’ll need to sit down during the game. My brother responds back to him, “Sir, if you want to see any of the game I’d suggest you stand up.”

By the end of the game we’re running up and down the isle slapping high fives to people with oxygen tanks and started a let’s go section 44 chant!

Awesome experience. Top 3 in my games at Rupp with Tashaun’s 3’s vs UNC and the UT game after a UT player said Rupp wasn’t a factor. I couldn’t hear for 2 days. Vandy Bukie’s freshman year was a close 3rd.

This year’s team has a lot of soul searching to be done. They know they can play with anyone in the nation, but they have to want it worse than the other team. We’ve seen it several times this year, where they run people off the court. To me a lot of them are watching the game, instead of playing in it. Harrelson, Liggins and Miller have to show by example. They cannot wait on the freshmen to do their thing.

If those that they are getting man handled and if they’re not getting the calls, Cal needs to get teed up to show he’s not happy with the officials calling the game. As you all know sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn’t. Now is the time for them to run thru the rest of the season undefeated………GO CATS!!!!!!!!

Tubby’s solid veterans didn’t take us any further in the tournament than Cal’s freshmen did last year

Think of all the teams we’ve missed over the years b/c players didn’t take care of business in the classroom or thought they were prepared for the next level and should’ve stayed.

If Marquise stays one more year and gets his grades up we hang #8. Orton this year should’ve stayed although he’d probably be injured anyway and we wouldn’t hold the record for first round picks by one school so…never mind.

That team was awesome. Just remember this came before Tubby’s #1 rated recruiting class of Rondo, Morris, Crawford and Bradley who were all me-first mal contents. Tubby took heat even during 2003 for not getting enough top recruits while getting team first guys who weren’t highly rated like Estill, Daniels, and Fitch (although Hayes and Bogans were top recruits somehow UK fans didn’t notice them).

I would take a team that played both ends like this anyday. And remember this clip when stupid fans say Tubby played slow down ball. Just because you aren’t playing one on five the whole time doesn’t mean it’s slow – Tubby always said he’d prefer to run, exactly the same as Tom Izzo. UK did also put up 98 on UNC that year.

IMHO this game represented the apex of the Tubby years. Granted, Tubby won the national championship and you could definitely argue that was the high point. But watch that video and look at Tubby at the 4:15 mark. His team is putting the ROUT on the #1 team in the country and he is clapping and looking on rather unimpressed, like the Godfather. Awesome.

Cal hasn’t even been here two years and we’re back to the Tubby years? Cal was handed a bag of [email protected] by this school to coach. He went out out and got the number one class in the nation and lost only three games and got to the Elite 8. I’d say he’s a pretty good coach, as well. Number one class in 2010, #1 in 2011 and he’ll probably do the same in 2012. We will get players that are one and done. Blame the NCAA on that for their stupid rules. But Cal will develop players that he recruits that will stay. Give the guy a chance to get a bench filled with his players. I love Miller, Liggins and Jorts, but they are not his players and they are the reason this team is struggling right now. Cal has done more to bring UK back as THE team to play for than anyone else possibly could. Did we win it all in 2003? No, so that makes Tubby a failure that year too and that Florida games a mute point. Let’s move on to the present and hope this team gets it in gear for a run in March.

Today’s Kentucky team should watch this video. And they could see how playing defense and passing the ball is more important than scoring points on the offensive end. TEAM WORK and DEFENSE wins games. Not Terrence Jones trying to take over the world. If each UK starter had 3-5 assists per game, we’d crush every opponent.

No way Coach Cal is in the same league as Tubby Smith as far as actual coaching ability goes. Tubby was a great coach, Calipari is a great recruiter, two different animals. It’s like why Ashley says Tony is her favorite Cat of all time, Tony Delk played for the name on the front of the jersey, not to get prepared for the NBA!

As you now have me living in the past, another favorite point from this year was that if it was a Saturday in December we were on prime time CBS (even if that meant being stuck with BP). On those consecutive Saturdays: at UNC, vs Mich St, vs IU (ranked #6, not like current version), and at UL

I get that we can’t control UL and UNC being weaker now but we knew IU would be much weaker and I don’t mind beating them but add on another prime time worthy team like Michigan State who we no longer play. All of the above four were ranked in 2003 except UL. No offense to Miss Valley State but they aren’t exactly the same draw.

UK also played ranked Gonzaga and Notre Dame out of the conference even though the SEC was much tougher than now. In the SEC they played Auburn, Bama, Miss St, UGA, and FL as ranked teams with FL being #1 – a little different than now. I just say this to say don’t forget how amazing it was they swept the SEC and played a much tougher schedule than has been played in past few years.

I loved that team. Cliff Hawkins is my all time favorite pg for Kentucky. The only guy I know that had “asthma” his freshman year and couldn’t play over Saul because of it. That team was the best team in the country. It’s a shame they couldn’t finish the job in the tourney.

Just gonna throw this out there..we have the possibility to lose 3 in a row. Ole Miss, @ Florida, and Tennessee. I’ve been trying to support this team as much as my can, but my heart just can’t take the stress anymore. If we just go in and play with some attitude then we’d blow everyone out. Like Jimmy Dykes said,”This is the quietest team I’ve ever seen, they don’t have a guy who will step up and take charge of the team.” Can next year’s team get here already?
