Time to step your game up

If there’s any team that’s learned how rough it can be to play on the road, it’s Kentucky, who has now dropped four games in conference away from Rupp.  Obviously, they’re looking forward to playing in front of the home crowd tonight.  Tennessee?  Well, they don’t seem to be exactly intimidated by a crowd that is often criticized for being a little too laid back.  Vols center Brian Williams, who has somehow made it to his senior year without being nicknamed “Pig”, acknowledged in an interview that Rupp was unique, but wasn’t sure why he had never won a game there.  Why?  Well, he can explain:

“Kentucky isn’t that loud; I’ve played in louder places,” Williams said. “I can’t explain what it is about Rupp, but it’s something. I guess it’s the old ghosts in there messing with you.”

Yes.  He’s on to the ghosts.  That aside, Williams isn’t saying anything new or something that should be surprising to you.  Rupp can often be too quiet.  Don’t make tonight one of those nights.  The Cats are in crisis and the Vols are on an emotional high with the return of Bruce Pearl.  If there was ever a reason for you to be rowdy and be ready to scream, it’s tonight.  So, bring an extra bottle of Osteo Bi-Flex so the blue hair closest to you can rise without joint pain.  Be ready to lift your neighbor’s oxygen tank.  Just be ready.   Tonight is not for the faint of heart or the mild-mannered fan.  Tonight is about doing your part in getting this team to turn the corner and making sure Brian Williams doesn’t graduate with a win at Rupp and questions about the Rupp Arena crowd.  It’s your time to shine tonight.  Make it happen.

I mean if he is comparing loud to the kinda loud he is use to in prison, then he is one 100% correct. It gets loud in prison, especially when he has traded his ass for 3 cigarettes and some homemade prison wine.

Game doesn’t start till 9. Most of the lower section will be nappin by then. Time for a new arena with the student section strategically placed. Can you even imagine how loud it would be if all the rowdy fans were close to the ball? Right now it’s a joke. TV shows half the crowd lookin like they don’t even want to be there.

All I see on television are elderly fans sitting (never standing) and hardly cheering. It seems like the fans that want to get rowdy and get the team into the game are too high up. I know the money comes from these older fans, but we NEED for our crowd to be in it. Say what you want about Duke, they still have a fanbase that gets their team motivated unlike any other. GO CATS!!!!

As much as I hate TN, Rupp is definitely not a loud arena, and why is that? Because more than half of the students are in the second level and nose bleed sections.

I like that our fans are not rowdy but rather students of the game…carefully analyzing every move on the court. I find the Duke and Michigan state fans for instance, a touch gay holding their arms down to their side and jumping up and down in unison with their faces painted. To many of these old people it’s a society thing where they just have the need to be seen at THE happening event in Lexington. Let’s leave them alone and let them have their moment in the spotlight. They are, afterall our elders and should be respected. In no way should anyone take anything I just said seriously, because I am just kidding. However, many will bash me because they will just skim over the beginning of this and start typing. In conclusion, I just like to start trouble. Leave the Bluehairs alone, they are the lifeblood of the Kentucky basketball history pages. They can yell if they want to or they can just sit there and politely clap every once in a while. It is their choice and they have earned that right.

They really need to let the younger crowd next to the floor. I honestly can say whenever they scan the lower level it looks like everone in the lower level is pissed about being there with arms crossed and distain on their faces….DAMN I wish those old coots would read this…..I’m 60 but far from being an old COOT when it comes to my CATS!

why don’t you all quit complaining about what DOESN’T happen in RUPP and make it happen! Trust me, if everyone else in Rupp is loud the blue hairs will get the point. It’s when everyone else is quit that they won’t do anything. Time to take down ‘Ole Brucie and the low down, dirty snitches.

I b proud of all our fans….our fans know the game….and support the team for a lifetime….should fans be retired at a certain age? Should they stop giving money to the school? I hope we will all make the same effort to go to a game when we are 78. You ever tried to jump up when u had to pee real bad or it’s 5 more weeks until your knee replacement surgery? They were jumping up and hollerin before some of us were born. I think its the younger casual fans not making enough noise. I mean there are 24,000 people in there. If 12,000 were screaming that ought to be loud since thats more than some of the “loud” arenas hold. Must be the acoustics.

This is a UK problem. This is not the only univesity that gets big money from old people, we’re just the only one who care more about money than the students or blue collar fans!

I agree with Brian Williams Rupp Arena is one of the largest arena and we lead the attendance almost every year but it is NOT the loudest place to play college basketball. I have been to several games and the lower arena audience very seldom stand up and cheer on the Cats whether we are trailing by 10 or winning by 20. A true STUDENT SECTION need to be all the way around lower arena next to the court. Our guys gets the BEST shot from every team when they go on the road why not let our rowdy fans give our opposing teams player same treatment. It will also make a great college basketball atmosphere.

I am a life long UK fan living in sunny Florida. I have attended the last two UK/UF games in Gainesville and their student section at floor level gives the gators a tremendous advantage. It is time that the administration at UK do whatever necessary to move the students down on the floor, all around the arena. According to all the education people college should be about the students, right? Let the big donors set in the second level, or stay home.

    1)Build a new arena
2)Make the lower level smaller than it is now
3)Give students and fans other than the donors a chance at lowers
4)Create a club level right above lowers for donors
5)Make the club level expensive and filled with spoils
6)Finish up the arena with a second and third tiers for everyone else
    7)Everybody wins!!!

Im from louisville and have been a lifetime blueblood, most of my games if not all since I was a kid have been watched from the couch and I hate it. Some of these people need to realize that there are fans that would give one to two limbs to get a chance just to be in row 500 section Z. I have always hated for the fact that every venue we venture into it is as loud and crazy as the next.(Florida, Alabama, South Carolina etc..). Fact is the louder the crowd and the more enthusiasm that they show to support their beloved team the more energy it gives the players, it gets them fired up. Something needs to be done soon, if you are a season ticket holder get off your [email protected]# and cheer for your team!!! I dont care how old you are, the occasional golf applause is just not cutting it anymore!! Any team at any venue pro or college needs the roar from its home fans for motivation so a word of advice to all the Blue hairs or whatever, if you want to see this team come alive before the years out than I think you need to come alive yourself. The main concern is the motivation and passion of this team where is YOURS??!!
