With the departures of Kevin Galloway and Matt Pilgrim, it would appear that the final roster for the 09-10 season has been set and, needless to say, we’re all pretty excited about it’s depth and talent. CBS’ Gary Parrish, who has seem to be really firing off the UK stories lately, says UK should be the pre-season team in the country now that the roster is set. According to The Faux Hawk, this team now includes the likely #1 pick in the 2010 NBA Draft (Wall), two lottery picks (Patrick Patterson and DeMarcus Cousins) and likely a consensus First Team All-American (Jodie Meeks).
What Parrish doesn’t understand though is that…..well, nothing really. He’s right. Absoulutely right. If Meeks returns, this team is so completely loaded that I’m not even confident that I could put together a roster like this on NCAA Basketball ’09. And I’m good. Really good. I always like to approach the UK games from the aspect of “what is the opponent’s weakness and how do we exploit it properly?” and vice versa. What will they throw at us to attack our achille’s heel? If you’re facing this team, I don’t know if you can find a weakness. The ball-handling is outstanding. They have outside shooting. They have inside presence both offensively and defensively. They have depth. They have size. They have speed. And, as I stand before you on June 11, 2009, they have me in awe and longing for Big Blue Madness. This is going to be a fun ride.
