I didn’t think Louisville could beat Florida on Florida’s worst day. I was wrong, and hats off to the Cards for that. But let’s be serious. The Gators did not put forth the kind of effort they give in the regular season. That game was an exhibition to them. It was Louisville’s Super Bowl. This happens every bowl season.

However, Teddy Bridgewater can put that team on his back like Andrew Luck at Stanford. With the schedule Louisville has next year, they could easily go undefeated. Of the three teams that tied them for the Big East Championship, two will likely have new coaches next season (Cincinnati and Syracuse). Of the new Big East teams they face, they will kick Memphis in the teeth and likely beat San Diego St. They will be the heavy favorite in every game they play next season. They could easily play for the national championship.

  32. UKBlue
    10:11 am January 3, 2013 Permalink

When the NCAA investigation takes down UL Coach Hurtt & inevitably Bridgewater, the Sugar Bowl win will be irrelevant. Just like UL, they get shacking down to pay Charlie more money, and UL has to forfeit all their games.

UL fans: No TV Exe at ABC/ESPN is EVER going to put UL in a National Championship Title Game because they can’t sell it nationally because no one outside the city limits of Louisville cares about UL.

Florida was always overrated this year, and their coach will more than likely get fired by the end of next year.

This was basically a replay of the Utah win over Alabama. One great player on a good team that really wanted to win versus a better team that didn’t want to be there. They deserved it but wouldn’t have had a chance during the regular season.

Cards just showed that it’s possible for UK to win in the SEC. Did it 20 years ago vs Bama. Did it this year vs UF. Now I’m not saying we should be great every year. But I think after seeing this and Vandy going 8-4, I think the argument can definitely be made that UK can go 8-4 once every 5-7 years and get 9 wins once every decade.

While I hated seeing UL win over an overrated Florida team which manhandled by Louisiana-Monroe, it gave me hope for UK’s future. If UL can go into Florida and recruit over 50 players onto one team, then we can too.

College Football is changing. With the onset of the superconferences we will have access to better talent than we used to get. There will be more parity in college football in the future.

Plus, Charlie Strong is a good story, so as much as it pains me to admit it, they might get some viewers. The 1951 Sugar Bowl was the 17th Sugar Bowl matchup, pitting the Big Seven champion Oklahoma Sooners (ranked #1 in the Associated Press poll) against the Southeastern Conference champion Kentucky Wildcats (ranked #7). Oklahoma’s regular season record was 10-0; Kentucky’s was 10-1. Oklahoma averaged 34.5 points per game; only one team had scored more than twice in a game against Kentucky that season. Oklahoma entered the January 1, 1951 game with a 31 game winning streak; the Sooners’ last loss had come on September 25, 1948. Kentucky was coached by Bear Bryant; Oklahoma was coached by Bud Wilkinson. Notable players for the two teams included Oklahoma’s Billy Vessels and Kentucky’s Charlie McClendon, Babe Parilli and Wilbur “Shorty” Jamerson. 82,000 fans attended the game.

168 you asked for help, here it is. “Name one sport we are ahead of them in”

UK vs UL football: UK leads series 14 – 11

UK vs UL basketball: UK leads series 30 – 15 (plus 6 more NCs)

I was nice, I gave you two. Any more questions?

Don’t take any calls after John Short. If I play it backwards he will be the first caller and all will be right with the world.

225 — I hear ya. We need a really good haul. I’m not as worried about winning next season as I am about our program starting to build some momentum and getting strong enough so when Bridgewater is gone we are in a better position than them.

Dude, I was born in 1991….WTF do I care about 1951 Sugar Bowls??

231 — I don’t think they realize that. My problem with it all is that they did nothing to deserve getting into the bowl game and then think they are awesome because they finally beat a team of quality. Getting a chance to do what they did should go to teams that earned it throughout the season.

Sure do with the NBA had a 3-years removed from HS rule for eligibility like the NFL has. Can you imagine having John Wall, Anthony Davis, and MKG for three years?

239– The Cards did something special last night. It’s not a national championship though and is far from it. Louisville was given a chance to get into a one-game scenario with Florida because of the silly BCS system. A lot of teams across the nation deserved that shot more than Louisville.

I’m a life-long Gator fan who would like to congratulate Coach Strong and the mighty Cardinals football team. Just yesterday I read an article laying out “25 Reasons the Gators Will Swamp Louisville”. I guess your guys forgot to read it…

242 – I understand that. It doesn’t mean that the Big East champ deserves a BCS bowl.

#243 A Big East/ACC team put their boots on the throat on an sec heavyweight in primetime and DOMINATED the game…Congrats to Louisville for beating Florida all over the field tonight…..

I guess people can see now why Charlie Strong was so highly coveted by the likes of Tennessee. the Cardinals will be loaded next year, and they could very well have a preseason top 5-10 ranking….

The mighty sec is only 3-3 in bowl season, and that includes south carolina’s last second td vs Michigan…the most dominating sec team has been Vanderbilt thus far…

My favorite part of the game was UF defensive end Dominique Easley interrupting Teddy Bridgewater’s post-game interview to shake his hand. It was the closest UF’s defense got to Bridgewater since the 2nd quarter without committing a personal foul.

Also, it’s clear Joker Phillips wasted little time putting his stamp on UF’s football program. You could see subtle nuances in UF’s passing game and offensive line play tonight that screamed Kentucky Football.

To all of the U of L lovers, when was the last time you won a national championship in anything? Crickets chirping…. Oh yeah that’s right, ZERO. Enjoy your BOWL game win. In reality, college football only matters for 1 game in post season and that’s the championship game on Monday. Nice win, but it was 1 game not a whole SEC schedule.

Really hate Louisville… but got to say they played a perfect game and wanted the WIN and showed up to knock of the Gators. Gators showed up like a bunch of punk low class cheaters with a bunch of late hits and cheap shots, pathetic Coaching by Muschamp he had way more talent on his roster. Happy for the Louisville players they have a lot to be proud of!

This is to the 60% big blue fans who for some reason talk like 2nd graders. I expected this kind of
responce after this past saturdays game and last night. You just don’t reconize talent when you see it. In any
game you comw away with a big W or L. Your intelligence shows as to how you can handle the results. Right now
LOUISVILLE is the only school on the map. I’ve heard Florida wasn’t ready. They had as much time as LOUISVILLE.
I used to live in Fla. Go down there and ask the fans and players if this was just another game. Those people
live for football. Believe me they thought they were going to teach somebody a lesson. Instead they were taken
to the wood shed. Believe me when people talk sec football, Ky is the last thing on their mind. So make all the
excuses, comments and stories up you can. You are proably seeing blue right now and all I see is RED all around
me. GO CARDS GO CARDS GO CARDS MR KNOW IT ALL
