Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

This afternoon Kentucky had the highest heat index in the country

Folks, it’s toasty.

Earlier this afternoon The Weather Channel’s figures had Louisville with the hottest heat index in the country. Anywhere in the country. Hottest. In Louisville, KY.

If this post is incoherent rambling I apologize. The heat has gotten to me. This weather is absolutely ridiculous. It’s July 5th. We still have about two full months of this trash weather. This just confirms my (factually accurate) opinion that summer is the worst season.

  1. Spring
  2. Fall
  3. Winter
  4. Summer

In the winter at least you will get some 60 degree days. I golfed more last winter than I have this summer. I can always put on more clothes but I can’t pull a Ryan Lemond and golf in my undies. This is ridiculous and something must be done.

A rule I’ve said on my radio show is that you can only complain about one season for a 12 month window. The worst people are the ones that come into the office or school and complain about the weather three times a week for 52 weeks. “It’s too hot!” “It’s too cold!” “It won’t stop raining!” “When will we get a little rain?”

Horrible. The rule is if you complain about this heat you are not allowed to complain about the following fall, winter or spring. Then 12 months later you’re free to complain about summer, or wait for another season.

I’m complaining about this summer. I won’t say a word about fall, winter or spring. I don’t care. It can’t be worse than this.

I have to disagree. Although I love summer, fall means ITS FOOTBALL TIME IN THE BLUEGRASS!!!!!!!!

For where you live….maybe. Move to like Northern Minnesota where there is a REAL winter. 110 heat index is better than -40 wind chill. 🙂

We got summers that are hot as anybody. But we have extremely mild winters. Try a real one.

It was 4 New Years Day. I ran a 10k at 6:00 am. Mild didn’t cross my mind.

We don’t get fall or spring. We go from hot to a week of nice to cold amother week of nice then hot again. I’m either running my heat or my AC. I don’t get to turn it off and leave the windows open.

If you’re old enough you can remember when we had the change of seasons.

Summer is BY FAR the worst season. Fall is the best because summer is over and Basketball begins. I’d rather have my nose hairs freeze when I go outside (been to Duluth many times) than have to endure a 115 degree heat index.

Bring on the heat! Summer is the best followed by fall, mainly because football begins.

Down here in Augusta, GA (see ya soon TJ) norms are 100 index. But yes, that is extreme for anywhere and especially in my old home state. Ouch

The “Heat Index” is just another scare tactic that Big Government invented years ago. It means absolutely NOTHING. It’s been this hot & hotter, before we ever had a freaking Heat Index.

While I do agree with your big govt comment, they weren’t spraying the skies back in the 50s and 60s, so I have to disagree.

Heat index actually invented by a TV weather guy. Now is the hottest it’s ever been. Globally I mean.

I’m currently in Arkansas and the heat index is 106. Don’t know where that information came from, but it’s flat out wrong.

I don’t understand people who prefer heat over the cold. It is thousands of times easier to warm up than to cool down. If I’m cold I can just easily put more clothes on or do some exercise to warm up. If I’m hot im just going to profusely sweat and there is a limit to clothes I can shed to reduce heat.

Doing manual labor when it’s freezing cold out is 1000 times worse than when it’s 100 degrees.

My outdoor thermometer reads 102 in the shade. Not sure how accurate it is but it’s been in the shade for several hours now.

The only reason I hate the winter most is because it’s difficult to travel in slick conditions. There really aren’t any serious travel problems in the other three seasons. As far as the temps, you can always do what’s necessary to deal with them. In the spring and summer, wear less clothing and turn on the AC. In the fall and winter, put on more clothing and turn on the heat when necessary.

Something about this doesn’t jibe. I saw on the weather forecast this morning that the actual air temperature in Phoenix is 116. So how can we have the highest heat index when the outright temp out west is actually higher?

This is asinine. Summer is easily my favorite season of the year, and the moods of everyone else around me prove that to be true for everyone else too, even if they don’t admit it. People can get outside way more with the longer days and warmer weather, and they are instantly happier. Just look at social media and how many people enjoy being outside. That mood changes considerably during the winter when everyone is grouchy due to much shorter days and the frigid temps. Give me 75-95 degree temps year round and I will be the happiest person ever. I would love to never experience a true winter or snow again.

This post may have some credibility if we actually had the spring or fall seasons in KY. I can’t remember the last year we had a full fall or spring season. They typically last a week now. We are going from cold to hot to cold every year, so you basically choose between being freezing cold, hiding in your house with shorter days and more darkness, or being hot and getting to be outside with much more daylight. If I have to choose between one or the other, give me summer easily.

Also how often is the heat index as high as its been this week during the summer? Trust me, I am outside a ton during summer months as I am involved in high school athletics where we have to watch the heat index, and this week is an aberration. It’s been a few years since the heat index has consistently affected our ability to do something outside.

    Here are my rankings:

    1. Summer
    Whatever worst place is. Winter

(Spring and fall do not exist in KY)

I can tolerate the heat 100X better than people whining because they are spoiled by sitting in their climate controlled cocoons year round.
