They’re Making T-Shirts…

The WKU online store is striking while Joker’s seat the iron is hot.  Like all schools celebrating a big deal, Western officials have decided to market a t-shirt commemorating the upset loss from this past Saturday.

I don’t know whether this is good or bad.  On the one hand, we’re such a big deal to them that they have to make t-shirts for winning a regular season game.

On the other hand… freakin’ look at it.

Frick.

At least we make T-shirts that look like this:

Still sucks though.

I’m sure you meant ‘upset win’. Give WKU credit and quit worrying about offending Mitch and losing your program access.

But, you may be right about the loss part. UK lost the game the day Joker was named HCIW.

    Congrats to Western.

So what if they’re making or wearing t shirts? Mitch Barnhart and Joker Phillips should be forced to wear one everyday for the rest of the season. A scarlet shirt marking them for this unforgivable transgression.

Kentucky football will never be more than a 500 team. As long as the current adminstration is in tact, past and present. We get as much bowl revenue as does Alabama, LSU,etc. Even if we go 0-8, the money is still paid out evenly.
We will always hire an older coach or an up and comer. This way, we can get by paying them 1.5 million. We will fire and hire a new coach every 4 to 5 years to give the impression that they care. They will give out 6 to 8 million every 5 years or so to non-revenue sports to make it look as though they care.
Football is the money maker for most schools, but at Kentucky its basketball. Our basketball program sells the hats, t-shirts, pictures, etc. Basketball keeps us logging onto and paying for Catspause (Rivals and 24/7), Bleed Blue Kentucky, etc, not football. Without basketball, Kentucky would be nothing and they understand this. By paying less for coaches, not placing money into football, U of K will make money in football. If they put money into this sport or paid a football coach basketball money, we would lose money.
Until the adminstration decides that Kentucky can play both sports and compete in both, make money in both, then we will always be Kentucky in both sports…………..status quo

I`ve been a Wildcat fan since the 60`s. If you ever think we will compete in the SEC your only kidding yourselves. It isnt the current AD`s fault either. We have had several before him and will have several afterwards and it will continue to be the same until the Administration attitudes are changed.
Look at every football coach we have had over the years and all have had 500 or sub records. We showed, in the fifties, where we stand on sports. When Rupp was given his Cadlilac and The Bear was given a watch. When Rupp said this town isnt big enough for you and me and I`m not going anywhere.
Put 10 million into the football facilities, give football a recruiting room, an updated locker room, new practice facilities. Then gauge the recruiting.
We should have hired Howard in the 80`s but the admin was afraid of him. Afraid he would upset the basketball “people”, turn the page on football. So we didnt hire him, U of L did and look what we did for them. Turned the page.

Come on, KSR — man up and take a stand. As one of ten total UK football fans left, the repeated refusal of this website to drop the B.S. and criticize Joker is getting to be ridiculous. Admit that Joker is a terrible coach, was terrible as OC, was needlessly appointed as HC in waiting, and is as big of a failure as the BCG experiment was in basketball. Only difference is that us ten football fans yelling for his head is not as effective as the entire BBN calling for BCG’s head.

The only thing a UK head football coach has to do is put rears in the seats at Commonwealth Stadium. I don’t (and no UK fan should) expect an 8 win season. But I do enjoy watching a game where I don’t have to anticipate a 63-0 loss to UF for the umpteenth season in a row. Build up a little hype, steal some wins for good teams now and then, and let me get drunk in the parking lot on Saturday mornings/afternoons. But don’t lose to the WKUs of the world. If we continue down this road, it’s going to be a loss to Eastern in football (they’re not terrible, btw).

    That is all.

We totally deserve all the heckling & ball breaking !! I honestly don’t know how the entire coaching staff can look at themselves, justify to themselves keeping their jobs, and for that matter expect & cash their pay checks. Next to being on probation & losing scholarships, how much worse could it get? At this rate, we might as well be on probation. UK football is on a year round self imposed probation that we can already ever get off; we don’t have to worry about NCAA Bowl Bands, UK takes care of that themselves.

    11. If you look at the audits of the bowls since the Bowls are labeled as charities for IRS tax purposes; unless it is a big time Bowl, schools usually lose money on excepting lower end bowl bids. Especially since the bowls make the schools purchase no matter what their entire allotment of tickets. If the tickets don’t sell, the school is still required to buy the tickets. UCONN lost over $1 Million Dollars a couple of years ago playing in a bowl.

Petrino is a snake who always leaves his jobs is complete chaos. Any school that hires him will be in a total disarray when his tenure ends. That is proven by history. Our mistake was letting Leach get away last year. If only we hadn’t beaten Tennessee (I can’t believe I’m saying that!).

I see no big deal in the shirts. When you are a smaller school with a smaller budget and upset someone on their home field, you should be allowed to celebrate. It is kind of funny though, you can’t be mad though they are a Sun Belt team beating a team in “The Best Conference in the Nation”. Taggert drew up an amazing gamble of a play at the end. I would say he needs to be in the talks of being UKs next coach, he takes a lot of what the state of Kentucky has to offer from H.S. football and then beats the flagship university of the Commonwealth. They are taking it a little to the extreme though, I am from western Kentucky and a journalist wrote about how WKU has become a dominant force in college football, they beat a team that is in the lowest of the SEC. I am a graduate of UK and bleed blue, it is hard to hate on a team that the University of Kentucky is all around better than. Let them have their fun, but it is time to think about the job of head football coach at UK, I was a huge supporter of Joker coming into this season, but now not as much. I just hate to see the talent on this team (there is a lot, Max Smith is in top 10 QBs) not have the leadership they need from their coaches to succeed. I love my CATS, I love CATS football, I will be one of the few that still goes to the games. It is because they are my team that I support. That means supporting them through this time and giving these young guys support, not to give Joker support. Joker’s paycheck is his support, give these young guys that chose to play at the University of Kentucky support. Support the next coach the best way possible. They say that we can’t be a football school as well, well that is not true. If there was half the support for the football team as there was for basketball then we could have a decent team. That is all of my rambling, but GO Cats, thanks for your time Joker, and get 9.

45 – Yes WKU is D1 now. I’ve followed their transistion some. It’s hard to go from one level to the next even if you were at the top of your lower level. They were dominating teams like Murray and EKU before jumping up to D1. They struggled through 20 something losses in a row during the transition. Since Taggart became coach, in just 3 short seasons he has broken the losing streak, finished bowl eligible last year, and in the last 11 games WKU’s only 2 losses have been to the current #1 ranked team (LSU 2011, Bama 2012) Yes this is a huge win for WKU because it is an in state foe as well as their first SEC and BCS victory, so let them have their day with their shirts. To the victor goes the spoils. In the same since, I know UK fans are dissapointed losing to “lil ol’ WKU” but to be honest they aren’t “that” program anymore. Taggart has this team on the rise and I expect them to atleast be a consistent bowl contender now that they are bringing in D1 recruiting classes. Those first few years were rough, it’s tough to beat D-1 schools while your starting Junior/Seniors are D 1-AA recruits.

WKU fans have a right to brag and be happy with the direction that their football program is heading. Give their AD credit – they hired an up and coming coach who has the balls to be aggressive and has the charisma to get his entire team behind him. Joker is by most accounts a truly nice guy, a person that I would venture most would be happy to call a friend, but he just doesn’t seem to have that charisma, that “IT” that gets his team fired up and truly BELIEVING that they can win when they get on the field. We want to believe that “nice guys finish first”, but it isn’t always the case. Joker unfortunately reminds me of Bill Curry – quality individual with integrity, but not a winner on the field. Some folks are just too nice to have that level of ruthlessness that it takes to win in a competitive environment.

55- Were there really THAT many people wearing UK stuff on campus before this weekend, or were Western fans making a bigger deal out of it than it really was? Were there 3,000 WKU students faithfully adorned in all UK logo’d blue from head to toe running around campus shouting Go Big blue, or were there like 11 or 12 people here and there that mistakenly put on a blue shirt unbeknownst to the fact it was UK week?

Big win for the Toppers this weekend, and good luck to UK the rest of the season. I think UK might be better on offense than people think right now, still might not win very many games (if any)in the SEC but might be more competitive than people think right now. Western and Louisville might both end up ranked in the top 25 before the season ends.
