The Year Of The Cardinal Is Over

If you’re a Kentucky fan – especially one who lives within the confines of the commonwealth – you’re luckier than most of us if you don’t have to interact with a Louisville fan day in and day out. But if you’re stuck running in to the Cardinal Faithful daily, you know as well as I do – it’s been a good year for Louisville. The phrase ‘year of the cardinal’ has become lexicon, as they won a national title, made an unlikely final four run in Women’s basketball, their football team beat Florida in a BCS game – and then fought off high name programs to keep Charlie Strong, and watched their baseball team make it to the college world series. But we aren’t here to talk about how great a year Louisville had – we’re here to tell Card fans that the luxury cruise is over.
If you ask anyone, Louisville football couldn’t have been set up better for a championship run. An easy schedule, key returning players, and a Heisman candidate. A schedule so easy, in fact, that many wondered that if an undefeated seasons would have even been enough to get the Cardinals to a BCS game. Fortunately we won’t be subjected to the endless discussions surrounding that, because they dropped a game at home against a solid but not world-beating UCF team. Instead of landing in a BCS game, the football Cards are now looking at playing in the Russell Athletic bowl – the only bowl sponsored by the people that brought you disappointing Christmas presents this season.
Talking to Louisville fans before the basketball season, you would have thought Chris Jones was the second coming of Peyton Siva – only like, totally better. There were visions of repeat title runs in their heads and some were saying they would be even better than last years team. Not saying those are out of the realm of possibility, but with a loss to North Carolina – and looking bad while doing it – on top of a schedule full of Washington Generals, the Louisville mascot ought to be changed to a question mark. Throw Kevin Ware and Change Behanan’s antics in there too, and to steal a joke from the internet – it’s been a #L1Cnothing kinda year so far.
Let’s not forget – the Louisville Lady Cards basketball team have only lost one game this year so far… when they lost to Kentucky. Louisville women’s soccer? Lost to Kentucky. Louisville women’s volleyball? Lost to Kentucky.
Looks – let’s call a spade a spade. It’s not like the Louisville program is Thelma and Louise-ing here. They could be worse. But it is clear that whatever magic they had last year is wearing off, and they’re going to face a hard slap of reality tomorrow when the Cats take down yet another Cardinal team in resounding fashion.
Go Cayts.

If you start with the fluke Sugar Bowl, it’s only 361 days. Not even a year. Poor things can’t get anything right.
Why don’t you all give it a rest who cares about uof f%&king l
Your run is almost over Tards! Go Cats and Go Hurricanes!!
You’re Cardinal Envy is showing merely by the existence of this poorly written piece.
Louisville Troll.
So you’re trolling on this site to call people trolls? Perfect example of a typical Tard.
The guy that runs this site is a dong lover and uk blows. Your coach is a fat [email protected]
And yours is a baby killer and compulsive liar.
Yo, u gots sumthin against fat guyz?
Whoops, “You’re” should be “Your” before I get called on that. Heh Heh, Go Cards!
You got schooled by BBN Dave!
At least in my lifetime I won’t have to worry about the “Year of the Wildcat”. Your envy is showing.
Will you be killing yourself tomorrow? If so, I will play piano at your funeral for you.
Your envy is showing by being on this site, moron.
& at least in my lifetime I’ll never have to worry about UofL having more titles than Kentucky in the one sport both our schools care most about.
#3 LOL…jealousy is a UGLY thing…UK will NEVER do what Ul did in 2013…Enjoy your your 1 sport school and your spanking tomorrow…enjoy your Bowl Game…oops…I forgot
UL 73 KITTIES 67
I think Louisville’s 2013 could be done by Kentucky sometime. All it would take would be winning a weak conference in football, something we’ve never been in, and a year in college basketball where 5 losses warrants a #1 overall seed. That being said, it’s been a great year for U of L sports and I’m glad you guys are proud of it, as you should be. I just doubt that if Kentucky would have that kind of year, Louisville fans would be that civil about it. You all would probably accuse us of cheating or something like that. If Louisville has a good year, we’re expected to bow, but if we do we get accusations. Makes perfect sense.
One sport school? I assume you can’t read and therefore don’t get that Jefferson County Community College has already lost to UK at a lot of stuff this academic year? Must suck being an uneducated, government leeching, JCCC fan.
Oh, and six points isn’t a spanking
The YEAR of the Cardinal is over, but year number 2 is coming up. Back to Back hillbillies. Suck it!
Year 2 that includes not winning one of the worst major conferences in football, Teddy going from Heisman candidate to not even invited to the ceremony, losing in women’s basketball to UK, and already losing while having one of the weakest schedules in college basketball. Wow, congrats on year 2!
Yummy Center is going into default. Bonds are now classified as junk. Loserville will be moving back to Freedom Hall, Ha, ha, ha…
Does the U of L athletic department share the burden of loss
as well as the profit from the Yum center?
Sadly, uofl will never have to move back to Freedom Hall. If anything, they will be able to buy the Yum Center for pennies on the dollar if it goes into bankruptcy. Uofl has the first right to purchase it.
No, uofl has no liability on this deal. They are merely tenants.
You writers make me laugh. This year Louisville still has a chance to repeat. Even with playing in the American conference they still have double the amount of good teams that uk will see in the sec. Chris jones is way better than the twins and doesn’t whine like them either. Also they still get to go to a bowl game against a future acc rival which is better than watching an sec football team that couldn’t buy a win if they had to. I hope little drew barker has good medical insurance because he’s going to take a pounding playing for “stoops troops” lol. You guys are funny.
With the conference strength thing, you’ll have a point next year but this year you don’t. Right now, 8/10 AAC teams have winning records and 12/14 SEC ones do. I’ll give you that the SEC isn’t a harsh conference slate but the AAC isn’t exactly the Big East of years past either.
And if you guys would’ve signed Barker, you know full well that UL fans would be on here rubbing that in our faces daily
I love the pic of Pitino and the bird!!! I love so m any UL fans still have the time to come over here and brag about how great they are!!!
No one is bragging. You probably bought one of those humble 40-0 shirts. You guys are just so nice
This site has more uofl posts than uk and it isn’t just because the game is coming up. It is all the time. Lately it has been fat Matt jones making up fairy tale stories about uofl players. I seriously think Matt would like a 3 way with Chane and Ware.
UK sucks – How would you know how often this site posts about UofL you weren’t jocking it and Matt? I am clueless as to when UK is mentioned on UofL sites bc I don’t visit them. I seriously think you would like a 3 way with Matt and Drew.
Matt Jones is laughing at you silly UL fans all the way to the bank. Keep on making those site hits.
Isn’t there a BCS bowl game Card fans?? Oh wait yeah the RAB, hmmmm that is great you go beat the U, cause that is so much motivation. I live in Louisville and I have heard enough UL is so superior to everyone in everything, like UL fans said last year, you are defending champions, as in last year!
You tell em. Our Bowl game is better than the tards one. Momma sold her pickup and is going 2 weeks without cigs to buy out tickets. I’m pumped.
Kramer dawg yo don’t be talkin bout da cards or u gon meet my Jesus piece. L1C4
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!
Billy Ray!!!! UK never said it was going to win the BCS, you UL fans seems to m,ake fun of UK fans for talking about winning the NCAA with the basketball team, you UL peeps did the same with your football team just pointing it out?/ what you mad???
I see I have hit a nerve with UL fans who come here just what I wnted to do!!!! I don’t go to UL sites thank you!!!
I think if we pull it off tomorrow, we should all go over to Card Chronicle and troll the absolute hell out of them.
did you really use the phrase “call a spade a spade” while referencing Louisville?
a Freudian slip perhaps?
Enough of the generalized name calling.
I saw the article about Mohamed Ali throwing his Olympic Medal in the Ohio river after being refused service in a Louisville cafe.
I saw the park that was Foutain Ferry burned down by the fed up people of the west end.
I saw the vile racist hatred of the Jefferson County bussing opponents
Do not hold up Louisville as any shinning light. In fact, Louisville got its economic start with the slave trade via the Ohio river. Make a valid argument , not a holier than thou slur, that offends everyone.
You hit it right there, Come on. Like Matt said on the show today, Louisville acts all holier than thou, and cultured and what have you, but they forget that they are still part of Kentucky. Past generations of their families came from the very parts of the state that the Louisville “elitists” make fun of today. And a common term like “calling a spade a spade” gets called out? They’re just trying to cling to anything they can now.
So, U of L profits regardless . The Yum stays afloat, U of L makes money. If it goes under, u of l can buy it for pennies and the tax payers take the loss. Sounds like U of L doesn’t take much care in being a good Jefferson County citizen.
What’s Jefferson County to the “mighty” University of Louisville? That’s all they care about. Without a doubt one of the more selfish schools in the country
In bankruptcy all contracts, leases, etc. are at the discretion of the bankruptcy judge. He/She can cancel any agreement that is unfavorable to the filing party. Therefore, UL will not have the option of buying the CUM Center for pennies on the dollar. Rather, with no other place to play their games (F Hall no longer an option because it needs major renovation $$$) the itty bitty Cards will be forced to sign a new lease that is more favorable to the bankrupt party. Nice thinking Cards but the real world , which you are apparently not exposed to,does not work like you believe it does.
#10..you do realize that we beat a 8-1 SEC and 11-1 over all record SEC school in the Sugar Bowl,so what does weak conference have to do with anything?
#10-3 You do know JCC is a extension school of UK?
Last year!!
Oh bobby is that all you have ? Please quit embarrassing yourself . Listen to your coaches. Strong has said that he doesn’t want UK s’ schedule, Petrino, coaching at Arkansas , whined that playing in the SEC just beats teams up every week taking its toll by the end of the year. Blind hogs find an acorn every once in a while. Even we beat Alabama and then the eventual national champs LSU in regular season. Until U of L can consistently beat top teams year in and out and people outside of your little fan base speak your accomplishments please stop sounding like rubes.
Uk is going to lose by 15 points or more tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!
Louisville sucks. I cant wait to hear their excuses when they get their ass whooped tomorrow at Rupp.
Who said it was the year of the Cardinal???

you got it wrong, UK SUCKS would love to pour wesson oil on the floor and get in a pile with SLICK RICK, UNCLE TOM, CHARLIE BROWN and just to have a buzz during their love fest they’d invite Chance and Kevin.
I wouldn’t brag about our women’s bball, soccer, and volleyball wins this year over UL as support for how the cards reign is over…we whip them in men’s bball, baseball, and football…okay, then I agree.
