University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

The week that was in SEC basketball

Mississippi State (0-1): Lost to Rider 88-74
-What is heck is going on in Starkville?  Is the ship already sinking for Stansbury and crew?  Jarvis Varnado went 8-8, scored 22 points, had 14 rebounds, and 7 blocks.  And the Bulldogs still lost….by 14…..at home……TO RIDER!  But worse than that is the comments of  Kodi Augustus, who played 15 minutes in the loss:

“I talked to my dad,” Augustus said. “He said we got outcoached. I don’t know. But I looked at it, I only played 15 minutes the whole game. Yeah, I’m [upset], but like I said, I can’t do nothing about it. I played all those minutes the exhibition games and then you come and play me 15 minutes? Wow!”

Last season, Augustus averaged 6.2 PPG and 3.4 RPG.  Sounds to me that he deserves at least 35 minutes a game.

Tennessee (1-0): Beat Austin Peay 83-54
Austin Peay was only down 6 at the half to the Vols, and keep in mind that the Govs play UK later this season.  In a theme you see a lot this weekend, former UK target and MISS Scotty Hopson led the Vols with 16 points.

Georgia (1-0): Beat New Orleans 67-59
-Obviously, this team is rebuilding, but for an opening game, this was NOT a good showing.  The most glaring stat: New Orleans is likely moving to DIVISION-3 in the near future.  The star for the Bulldogs was Trey Tompkins, who scored 25 points.  Georgia is likely to be the whipping boy of the Eastern Division all season.

Mississippi (1-0): Beat Arkansas Little-Rock 92-64
-Snoozefest of a game.  Daundre Cranston scored 21 points.  Andy Kennedy used no racial slurs.

South Carolina (1-0): Beat Alabama A&M 88-50
-Darrin Horn season#2 starts with a blowout.  This team could be the surprise of the SEC this year, which would be amazing because they surprised everybody last year.  You would think people would figure out Horn can coach and they have some good players in Columbia.  All-American Devan Downey had 23 points, nearly half of what the other TEAM scored.

Arkansas (1-0): Beat Alcorn State 130-68
-Can’t really find what the story of this game was.  Jemal Farmer scored a fairly nice 28 points, and Rotnei Clark had 51.  Wait……what????????  Rotnei Clark, former UK target (again) had 51 points?????  And 13 3-pointers??? Who was guarding him, the BTI-led Lambda Lambda Lambda Intramural squad.  I’m sorry, but even Tennessee held Jodie Meeks to 10 threes.  Nonetheless, great performance by Clark.  Unfortunately, only 7,700 people saw it because the fans in Fayetteville have already given up on this team.

LSU (1-0): Beat Louisiana Monroe 82-62
Bo Spencer, 23 points.  Moving on.

Auburn (1-0): Beat Niagra 69-65
The Georgia Bulldogs of the Western Division.  Do you remember when this team was a 1-seed in the NCAA Tournament just a decade ago?  Anyway, this score basically tells you what you need to know about the Tigers.  They suck, and they probably know it.

Alabama (0-1): Lost to Cornell 71-67
Welcome to the SEC Anthony Grant.  Probably not the way you want to start your tenure, with a loss to an Ivy league team.  The Ivy League has not won a NCAA Tournament game since 1996.  Grant may have had better teams at VCU than he does at Bama right now.  But, give it time, I think Grant will turn things around in a year or two.
