Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

The topic of Pete Thamel’s first article for Sports Illustrated is exactly what you think it would be

I think he meant to DM that to John Calipari.

With the way he obsesses over digging so deep into the lives of young high school boys, one would think Perverted Justice would’ve already kicked in Pete Thamel’s door and hauled him off to MSNBC’s televised jail. But, Pete Thamel is still out there, preying on the amateur status of America’s youth.

In his first article for his new employer, Sports Illustrated, Thamel wrote about… you guessed it… John Calipari and recruiting at Kentucky. Thamel reports that the NCAA has expanded its inquiry into Nerlens Noel, with two NCAA officials traveling to New Hampshire for a three-hour meeting earlier this month. It’s the perfect topic for his first piece at SI, considering there is so little news out there to focus on.

**cough** UNC academic scandal **cough** Shabazz Muhammad’s eligibility at UCLA**cough**

Forgive me, I’m coming down with something.

This is the part where I would normally provide you with a link to Thamel’s story, but I’m not. We’re not in the business of throwing hits to the man who spends every waking minute of his life trying to take down John Calipari.

So if you’d like to read it, go to Google and search for “Pete Thamel Nerlens Noel” It will likely prompt you to search for “Pete Thamel sucks,” but that will only take you to his New York Times articles.

Congrats on the new job, Pete.

You’re off to a very Pete Thamel start!

Pete Thamel SUCKS, probably BTI’s closest competition. This is starting to border on harrasment. Speaking of Hair, how many small children could hide in “Thamel the Camels” chest hair? Oh, and notice that he also would have a unibrow if he didn’t wax between his eyes. Not that there is anything wrong with a unibrow, but if ya got it – flaunt it!!!

Wasn’t it around earlier this month that Sandy Bell officially announced that Noel would be academically eligible to play this season? Wouldn’t that most likely be the reason that the NCAA officials made the trip? Nothing to see here, folks, move on. Thamel continues to grasp at nothingness. What a loser.

No one wants to talk about UNC and he got beat on the Shabbaz story so he printed an article that all of BBN will click on and get him a ton of hits during the offseason. Give him credit on getting hits but this guy is the king of reporting on nothing that seems like it maybe somethign but just is nothing. KSR should start a Not Pete Thamel thread on Friday.

This is as much of a surprise as the sun rising, taxes being due every April 15th and the Cubs not making the World Series.

In other words Thamle writing a story on UK, trying to bring them down, is no surprise at all.

Sorry to say he’s going to be disappointed again. LOL.

“Two NCAA enforcement officials went to New Hampshire to look into Noel’s recruitment. Sandy Bell was there. No one will comment on the subject. However, a couple of people who know nothing about the case told us that it may be a little unusual”

That’s pretty much it. Now that’s journalism!

  14. Al B. Sure
    3:46 pm August 22, 2012 Permalink

Wouldn’t it most likely be because Noel reclassified and they were checking to make sure that he was eligible. If Sandy Bell was there and there was a problem, do you really think she would have personally contacted Noel and told him that he was good to go for the upcoming season?

can you really blame him? even uk fans thought calipari was scum when he was at umass and memphis. but now that he’s coaching here, we’re supposed to just ignore his checkered history of getting final fours vacated. either something is going on, or he’s just the unluckiest s.o.b in college basketball. also, my neighbor has a uk flag on his front porch and there are three cars in his front yard.. not kidding. and you wonder why uk fans get a bad name.

    5) If Sandy did, I imagine it is so she would see every bit of evidence they claimed to see so they couldn’t claim they had access to more information and wouldn’t reveal it (a la the NFL on the Saints Bounty Program). She told him he’s clear, he’s on campus. If something had come up during that trip, we’d have heard of it long before Thamel could write this vague yellow journalism crap.

    Everything they do, she’d see.

#11 – I distrust the NCAA as much as the next guy, but even they would be hard-pressed to find a way to vacate wins because a recruit who hasn’t yet played a game for UK is potentially guilty of receiving impermissible benefits. Worst case scenario (which won’t happen, this is Thamel being Thamel) is Noel is guilty of accepting a small fortune from somebody and is ruled ineligible.

  22. Will S
    4:05 pm August 22, 2012 Permalink

I’ve heard for weeks now that if UK had an international trip like UCLA or NC State, that Noel would NOT be cleared by the NCAA. It is an ongoing investigation. Noel is currently academically eligible, but that doesn’t mean the NCAA still isn’t investigating the reports of receiving improper benefits. Academics and improper benefits have nothing in common. He could be academically eligible but still ruled ineligible by the NCAA.

    16. When has Cal been responsible for a Final Four being vacated?? Camby was at fault at UMass. He even owned up to it. And there’s never been any concrete proof that Rose didn’t take his SAT. It was considered suspicious and therefore ruled invalid. Even if he didn’t take his SAT it wasn’t setup by Cal contrary to what rival idiots believe. The NCAA even cleared Rose to play then later came back and rule him ineligible. How can that be Cal’s fault? Since Cal has been at UK, he sat Wall until his issue was cleared up and Kanter never played for UK. If there was something going on with Noel then he would be on the bench too but he’s already been cleared to play. His only problem was getting his work done during the summer so he can reclassify. That’s it. He got it done and now he’s cleared to play in 2012. The only reason people think Cal is dirty is because they just see the headlines that a Final Four was vacated. They don’t bother to look at the facts.

Remember the Derek Rose/Memphis case everybody…? The NCAA itself ruled that Rose was “good to go” and could play at Memphis at the beginning of the season, then all the sudden at the end of the season they said he was ineligible to play. This is the NCAA they play by their own rules! I’am sure Sandy Bell had every reason to believe Nerlens was good to go for this season, but here comes the NCAA and I’am sure they will create something…

You guys know this isn’t new to UK, right? Sandy Bell’s known since early August, which means Mitch has known, Nerlens has known, Cal has known. It’s only new to us because it was communicated through a mass medium, but the NCAA and Kentucky are both well versed in the situation. I doubt Sandy Bell and Cal would sound so upbeat about Noel’s future with the team this season if he was in as deep of trouble as Shabazz.

WHAS 11 reported that they are investigating who paid for his visits to UK. Worst that I can see coming out of this is that he will have to pay back the amount that they deem “improper benefits” and possibly sit out a few games in the early season, a’la John Wall and Josh Selby. How could this be any more serious than the thing at KU with Selby? Hell, Selby didn’t even have to use his own money to pay back the benefits – he got to use some of his “financial aid” from Kansas. In other words, the NCAA sanctioned Kansas providing the kid with the improper benefits!

#50 said it best in regards to the trolls. There is no existence more miserable than to spend your life jealously wishing bad on others, just because you are a putz yourself.
