The Tennessee Travelers are moving to Kentucky

Ron Mercer is a former Tennessee Traveler

A Tennessee-based AAU team is packing up its Nike basketball shoes, uniforms and balls and moving to Kentucky this spring. The Tennessee Travelers, one of the 40 Nike-sponsored AAU teams in the country, will begin practicing in Lexington in 2013. The Travelers are entering their 19th season as an official Nike AAU program, making them eligible for big events like the Peach Jam and other Nike EYBL tournaments.

The program’s coaches and directors decided to move to the Bluegrass because they see a new cycle of talent coming through Kentucky. They told the Herald-Leader that they’re looking forward to scouting and recruiting at high schools across the state.

Anyone have a suggestion for the team’s new name????

It’s gotta be Kentucky Colonels. They need to play their games using the red, white, and blue ABA ball, grow afros, and sport some retro uni’s/shoes with high socks.

Kentucky Thoroughbreds/anything to do with Horses/Horse Racing. If Kentucky is known for anything, it is basketball and horses…and bourbon, but I don’t think the Kentucky Bourbon Blazers would go over too well on an AAU team.
