The Sunday Look Ahead: Next 5 on the Court

With the young basketball season underway we now have a better understanding of the next five teams on our schedule. The stretch should prove interesting as there is a variety of talent, venues, and storylines that should make these games interesting. First up is the game this Wednesday against the Eagles of Morehead State.

Morehead State

Started Off: 2-1

The biggest aspect for this game is the return of Unforgettable Sean Woods. Woods is in his first year at Morehead and is looking to guide the team back to the NCAA tournament. MSU opened the year with a win over LIU but were then throttled by Maryland. For their third win they kicked off the state tour by beating Alice Lloyd, the team Andrew Wiggins nearly beat himself. So will the Cats have a problem? They shouldn’t, if you want to see them in action against another like opponent then they play Lafayette today at 2.

LIU-Brooklyn

Started Off: 0-3

The Cats wrap up the Barclays Center classic with two games not played in the Barclays Center. After reaching the NCAA tournament last year LIU-Brooklyn has struggled early so far losing all three of their games in the classic playing MSU, Maryland and Lafayette. Expect them to go 0-fer as they head into Rupp Arena for a post Thanksgiving feast for the Cats. Cupcakes are always a great way to finish off some Turkey.

Notre Dame

Started Off: 3-1

The young Cats go on the road for the first time this year to face the currently ranked twentieth Fighting Irish. How much longer they’ll be ranked is the real question? Friday night they dropped a game to A-10 member St. Joe’s  79-70, so they probably lost their spot inside the top 25. The rest test of this game will be to see how the team of freshman reacts on the road. Hopefully Ryan Harrow will be back to steady the team as he already has some road experience at NC State.

Baylor

Started Off: 3-1

Last year the Cats downed the Bears to go on to the Final Four. You know the remaining members from that team on Baylor are going to be looking for some revenge. This game will be the first tough test for the Cats at home as they try to defend the two year home streak. Baylor is ranked sixteenth right now but also got upset on Friday night. The Bears were knocked off by the mighty Buffalo of Colorado 60-58.  The Bears shot just 37% in that game so if the Cats can hold them to a similar mark expect them to give BU another loss.

Samford

Started Off: 1-3

It’s rare you get to see the same opponent in both Football and Basketball during one season in Lexington but such is the case this year with the Samford Bulldogs. After the football team won handily to gain their second win expect the basketball team to win by a similar amount. Samford has played a tough schedule so far getting beaten by both Louisville and Memphis who are both in the top 25.

So how do you the Cats are going to fare over the next five games. They should go 5-0 but you never know if they could get surprised. Which game are you most looking forward to?

Uh…..yeah, other than three (sometimes four) teams from our conference plus Louisville every other year. Does the KSR “learn to write” brochure have a bunch of catch phrases that you guys drop into these posts even if they’re not accurate? Lots of people read this site…..do better or you risk embarrassing yourself.

How did Morehead get their 3rd win against Alice Lloyd if they’re 2-1? Proof read much?

Random….what really irritates me right now is cj Leslie at nc state. That kid is petulant and disrespectful. If he had come to Kentucky like we all wanted him to cal would have molded him into a lottery pick. As it stands he will go second round at best. Sell this to all recruits!!!!!

Wiggins played Alice Lloyd JV team. Morehead played ALC varsity. Not the same team. One of many errors in this post. Can anybody write on this site any more???
