The Shagari and Joe Crawford breakout

A lot will be made after tonight’s contest about the exceptional performance of Shagari Alleyne. Most of the big guy’s fans have been hoping all year to see him do exactly what he did tonight….call for the ball on offense, play a strong centralized game on defense and at least be mediocre on the glass. While I will reserve judgment on the big fella until he does this against a team with bigger guys (and a better gameplan), it was good to see him have some positive results.

Equally as impressive to me however was watching a comfortable Joe Crawford for an entire game. We all know that Crawford has buckets of talent. However, he has often looked as if he could not shake his nervousness or make his game fit into the Tubby Smith system. Tonight he looked silky smooth, scoring 13 points and creating a great deal of offense (including some of Shagari’s points). For UK to be successful, Crawford has to be good. Without him, we are a top 15 team….with him we can be top 7 or 8.

And for those of you that saw the television feed tonight, I hope you enjoyed as much as I did the continued shots of Shagari sticking his finger up his nose. Great camerawork!!!
