Did you get all that? Okay, let’s move on to some news and views, shall we?

— The hot gossip of the night was the news that both John Calipari and Rick Pitino were at Bullitt East to watch 2013 PF Derek Willis play. Reports are that the two mostly avoided each other despite sitting mere feet apart; however, it was Cal who chose to break the ice and greet Pitino and his assistants. WHAS’ Adam Lefkoe tweeted that Cal “patted Rick’s knee” and the pair spoke for about a minute, before Cal realized just exactly where that knee had been, shook his head, and slowly backed away. Don’t believe me? There’s video!

— Speaking of Slick Rick, the big news nationally on Tuesday were reports that the “Big East” will add Boise State, San Diego State, SMU, UCF and Houston in attempts to rebuild itself. Boise State and San Diego State will join in football only. It’s okay Rick, I’m sure they have Italian restaurants in Dallas, Orlando, and Houston. I bet if you paid them enough, they’d let you lock up.

— On Tuesday, word spread round the interwebs that Wide Receivers/Passing Coordinator Coach Tee Martin will remain on the UK staff. After Tennessee’s WR coach Charlie Baggett “retired,” there were rumors that the Volunteers were interested in bring Martin back to his alma mater, but it’s not clear if an offer was made or if any talks actually took place. Tennessee decided to shuffle personnel internally to cover the position, and with that, we all breathe one big sigh of relief. Although the wide receiving corps was the subject of heavy criticism this season, Martin is one of the bright spots on the coaching staff. He is an asset in recruiting, which you will hear from nearly every player on the team. In addition to coaching, Tee has helped bring UK football into the 21st century in terms of marketing and atmosphere, which is something not to belittle. The program is fortunate to have him on staff, and hopefully he will stick around for a long time.

— Some football kudos to dole out. First, congrats to Danny Trevathan, Winston Guy, and Larry Warford, who were all named to the coaches’ All-SEC Second Team. The fact that Guy received honors almost makes up for the Associated Press only giving him “Honorable Mention” in their All-SEC awards yesterday, (Trevathan made the AP first team, Warford the second team). However, nothing will make leaving Tydlacka off both lists acceptable. Also receiving accolades on Tuesday was former Cat Corey Peters, whom the Falcons selected as their nominee for the 2011 Walter Payton NFL Player of the Year award, which honors a player’s volunteer and charity work, as well as his excellence on the field. I was lucky enough to attend a Falcons/Titans game last month in the Georgia Dome, and I can assure you, Corey is very much loved there. They featured him in one of their “get to know your Falcons” segments, and after I did the obligatory “OMG GO FORMER CAT” cheer, the Falcons fans around me were much nicer to me and my friends, despite our Titans apparel.

— One last bit about the North Carolina game, I swear. The fine folks over at Grantland (would it be a stretch to call them colleagues? Yes it would.) posted a piece about the game from the NBA scouting perspective. The wealth of NBA talent in Rupp on Saturday was matched only by the number of NBA scouts and general managers in attendance. Jonathan Givony penned the piece, which pits players from each team against each other in an NBA scouting matchup. Here are the matchups, and Givony’s picks as to who will fare better in the NBA draft and beyond based on their performance Saturday:

Point Guard: Marquis Teague vs. Kendall Marshall Givony’s pick: Marshall
Shooting Guard: Doron Lamb vs. Dexter Strickland Givony’s pick: Lamb
Small Forward: Michael Kidd-Gilchrist vs. Harrison Barnes Givony’s pick: Kidd-Gilchrist
Power Forward: Terrence Jones vs. John Henson Givony’s pick: Henson
Center: Anthony Davis vs. Tyler Zeller Givony’s pick: Davis

Agree? Disagree? Go read the piece in full to see Givony’s reasoning. Givony agrees with most in saying that Kidd-Gilchrist’s performance was incredibly impressive, and likely improved his stock more so than any player on the floor:

If any player was able to elevate his NBA draft stock through this one game (an unlikely proposition), it was Kidd-Gilchrist, who needed a big outing after some early offensive struggles. NBA scouts got a great feel for the many ways he can impact a game with his sheer toughness and desire. His tenacity attacking the rim and locking down on the defensive end were huge difference-makers in this game.

— As we continue to endure a work week devoid of basketball action, it’s time to fully focus our sights on Indiana. On Tuesday, Hoosier fans attempted to start “Camp Crean” outside of Assembly Hall, but the police made camping out pretty difficult by outlawing tents and chairs. As of late Tuesday night, a few stubborn students still remain, although odds are they’re just Kentucky fans in disguise. #BlueGetsIn

See, they even have a blue tent!

That’s all, folks. As always, Matt and the crew will take the air at 10 a.m. armed and ready with IULOLs. Maybe the Truth will call, fresh from a night at Camp Crean? Please?

Until then, enjoy this little piece of heaven:

Why would Willis even consider going to Louisville? An in state kid would be crazy not to pick the cats. If he doesn’t make it to the NBA, he would still be treated like a King for life in our state. What school gives him the better chance of becoming a NBA player? It just seems like Kentucky is a obvious choice.

Nice camera work/angle at the end there News 11 field team. Coaches in the stands then pull forward to Derek Willis in the lane.

tax dollars hard at work right there. The cop is gettin’ tips on how to dribble drive criminals out of town. I know sometimes they are put in situations that I would not want to be in but they get to be in a lot of places that some people would pay big money to be in. I guess you take the bad with the good. For example, Coach Cal always has excellent teams…but you always hope the game does not come down to free throws if you are rooting for Coach Cal. It’s the Coach Cal free throw curse 🙁

anyway, I didn’t really like the way he hung on the rim and he said UK was like any other school. I am detecting a little bit of an attitude problem with this kid. If he ends up at UK then I hope I’m wrong. If I am right, then he might be a great fit at U of L. I heard they need a few more rotten apples. GBB!!!!!

The tent kills me! However, I am worried for our players safety given the vile comments tweeted the last 24hrs. I can just see us getting up by 30 and the fans resorting to bad behavior. Really disappointing what I’ve read. On the other hand, after reading comments from UNC fans after the game, I have a lot of respect for them. There were on like 2 cheap shot comments, everything else was very fair and respectful. Talk about polar opposites.

Let’s be honest, the “buzz” in the building was emanating primarily from Calipari. Pitino’s a celebrity coach, but Cal is larger than life.

As a BEHS grad, I really hope that Willis makes the only logical choice and enjoys a career at UK. It would be a shame to see our first D-I kid ever end up with the Cards.

Notice that Cal wore the bright blue UK jacket which stood out from the dark unnoticeable jackets Ricky and Co. were wearing. Cal is a master down to every detail. He was strutting around making sure everyone knew he was in the building while Rick tells his boys “that used to be me.”

Who got the better Terrence, us or Washington? I noticed most mock drafts project Terrence Ross to go higher in that draft. I did not realize he was that good. I believe those two were on the same HS team. Not sure how they ever lost a game.

Roy Williams doing his best Billy Gillispie impression concerning Hairston hurting his ankle.
“I told him I thought he was a little pansy, so I guess he’ll be all right,’’ coach Roy Williams said. “… He got up, and started to walk off [the court], then started to go back down, and I said, ‘No, no — walk off the court.’

“It’s a moderate sprain is the early diagnosis. He’ll probably let you know on Twitter that he won’t be able to play until early July. But if he does, he’ll run a heck of a lot — on his hands. If his ankles are bad, he’ll run on his hands.”

I can’t believe Grantland lets the Draft Express loser write articles for them.
Picking Henson over Jones is his choice, I don’t have as much problem with that. Mentioning the Teague “travel” is stupid and if that is the only knock on his game, then I like his upside–much much more than Marshall.

Marshall is a good passer and that’s it–he’s slow, doesn’t rebound and is not a scorer. He is going to be a long time pro? really?

I was there. Neither side was intimidated.. there was no real awkwardness, no dirty looks. It’s fun to play up the rivalry but I don’t think either cares that much. Both of these guys are filthy rich from coaching and have top 5 teams at the moment. They may not particularly like each other, but they are both professionals and treated each other as such. That being said, Rick seemed much more down to earth at this particular event.. a few people sat down and chatted with him while Cal was a lot less available thanks to his police escort.
