The Scheduling of Duke University by the Coward Mike Krzyzewski

It’s not Friday, but the theory still holds true.

Over the past few seasons, there’s been a quiet, yet hopeful, whisper that Kentucky could possibly land a regular season game with Duke.  The longing for a little shirts and blouses action between the two schools is probably heavier on this end because, well, we like beating good teams.  Duke?  They’re not interested in playing Kentucky.  This confirmation comes from John Calipari himself, who was asked about a potential matchup last by a fan in Richmond.

For all the hell Duke gets for not playing anyone away from Cameron Indoor, they’ve picked it up a bit the last few years.  So you’d think Kentucky would get a shot, right?  Not quite.  Coach K and his boys are 3-4 in true road games the last three seasons, so the chances that they want to mix it up with an elite program in the non-conference are probably disappearing faster than Kyrie Irving’s dignity.

Of course, despite all their running and dodging, the Cats and Duke will finally get each other in 2012, thanks to the new ESPN annual tournament.  In the meantime, keep hiding behind your UNC-Greensboro’s, Duke.  We’ll schedule elite teams.  Like North Carolina.

*There’s a Duke blog that ripped on Cal for saying this, but the first thing you learn as a black belt nerd fighter is that you never nerd fight with actual nerds.  Be careful.

Is it just me or does Rep. Anthony Weiner (New York) remind you of Rick Pitino in both appearance and other related activitiy?

All I got from that article is “Our players can’t take the pressure of Rupp Arena”. I think Louisville and Pitino get treated just as harshly at Rupp Arena as Duke and Coach K would. Also, Kentucky doesn’t want to play in Cameron? I’m sure we would love nothing more than to do a home and home in Rupp and Cameron. Fact is, our players would be able to handle that atmosphere, which probably won’t be much different than going to UNC every other year, Indiana every other year, and Louisville every other year. Duke players simply are not used to non-ACC games where the crowd is heavily against them.

what sort of tool uses “whatever” in a debate? love the cheap shot at caliparis 500th, and also insinutating that it would be dangerous to the players or fans to go to Lexington and play is rediculous. Oh and by the way the fact that he refers to it as “the shot” shows they stil are dwelling on it also. news flash – every college basketball fan over the age of 30 will recall this as one of the most memorable college games ever! to say we havent gotten over it is like asking Joe Frazier when he is going to get over Muhammed Ali. Lets play them in Indian, or West Virginia, or South Carolina, or anywhere they would consider neutral, how about Greensboro, or Winston-Salem!

If I remember correctly, there were talks a few years ago where Dook agreed to play a home and home with the Cats as long as we played in Cameron and they returned the favor by playing us in Cinci or another “neutral court”. They want no part of Rupp.

[email protected]&k it. I say let’s play ’em at Duke…screw the 1 and 1. There would be nothing better than going to Cameron and ripping Duke a new asshole. Bring ’em on. It’d make my decade. Get’n all hot just thinking about it. haha

It’s ignorant for someone to think that all UK wants his a home game out of this. Without knowing the talks at all between the two schools my guess is that like usual with power house schools there is a home and home contract that UK would want, but this would come at the start of the year and why would a PUKE team want to play an overloaded Kentucky team at the start of the year, this would give all of it’s blowhards a reason not to rank them as high as their ever underachieving teams truly deserve.

Yah, we’re not over the pain of the ‘shot’; just like they don’t remember the ’98 game, when Battier/Wojo & Co got a huge taste of our boys. Wojo still has nightmares about Turner wearing him out…

At the end of the day you have to play the home and home for money reasons, because both schools know that there it would be sold out, KY with 24,000 seats sold and what Duke would sell out there 14,000 seat arena. But bigger than that would be the TV rights and everything else. The event would make more money if played at Kentucky, I would even say have it at a neutral site every year kind of like what we do with Indiana.

Duke won’t ever have the non-conference KY has, I mean UNC, Kansas, Indiana, Louisville all before pretty much before the first of the year.

Duke fans should be reminded that, in 1998, they were matched up against the Cats in the Elite Eight. We here know how that turned out. I guess they like to use the excuse of “selective memory”.

If Duke doesnt want a home an home then lets try Kansas, Michigan State, UCLA, Arizona, Uconn, any top flight program that wants to play, let Duke keep ducking us. And lets bring Xavier into Freedom Hall every year.

I guess the Dookies also forgot the 1978 Championship game. Kats 94 – 88 with James Lee’s slam at the end accenting the crown won by the Kats. Oh yeah I guess they forgot Jack Givens torched them for 41 points that night!

We are making fun of them for their constant scheduling of nothing but cupcakes in the non conference not just a game here or there… everyone has them including UK but we also schedule tough OOC teams as well. Duke doesnt need to do this to bolster their resume because they will get a bloated ranking and the easiest road through the tourney year in and out no matter what if its at all possible…. everyone knows that the dukies are gonna get love no matter if its earned or not.

Dook did play St. John’s in the garden last year…and got waxed! Coach K does not play road games out of conference…period! We’ll just have to wait until next year on a neutral court. I really hope we play them in the NCAA tournament this year.
