Providence has taken a unique approach to getting fans involved in the draft process. With their prolific scorer, Marshon Brooks, slated to be taken as a lottery pick, the Friars have organized a little contest/donation drive to get the fans involved. Here’s the press release from the university:
Experts are speculating on when Marshon will be drafted and now Friar Fans have the chance to make a prediction and win exclusive tickets! To be entered to win, go to friars.com and make a donation to the Friars Forever Athletic Fund for the amount that corresponds to when you think Marshon will be drafted. For example, if you think Marshon will be the 10th pick in the draft, simply make a $10 donation.
Every person whose donation correctly matches when Marshon Brooks gets drafted will win two VIP luxury box tickets to a Providence College men’s basketball game. All winners will be entered into a drawing to win two tickets to a Boston Celtics game.
That seems fine for Providence, but UK fans are crazy so let’s make the game a little more challenging. Let’s assume that you have to guess the draft spot of every UK player and donate a sum that correlates to each. So last season a donation of $1, $5, $14, $18 and $29 would have correctly predicted the draft location of all five Wildcats taken and would have set you back a grand total of $67.
This season that number would probably be higher assuming that you expected both DeAndre Liggins and Josh Harrellson to be drafted. Providence obviously wasn’t much concerned about money considering Brooks’ high projection so there isn’t as much risk for the fans. Everybody gets VIP luxury box tickets! We like risk though, so we’re going to do a risky hypothetical situation.
If you could win pretty good tickets to a UK game, probably against a lesser opponent, and a chance to be in a drawing for Blugrass Stallions tickets, what donations would you make to predict the draft positions of Brandon Knight, Enes Kanter, DeAndre Liggins and Josh Harrellson? Essentially, I’m asking you to guess when the Kentucky players will get drafted with a faux-gambling edge.
Personally, I’d give a total donation of $113. Knight to the Jazz for $3, Kanter to the Cavs for $4, Liggins to the Lakers for $46 and Jorts to the Kings for $60.
Leave your predictions in the comment section below. I can’t promise UK tickets, but if anyone gets them all correct and that person happens to be in Evanston during the winter for some unfortunate reason, then I’d love to treat you to an evening of Northwestern Wildcats basketball. We can laugh at the high school gymnasium they play in and their lack of fan support while they jack up 30+ threes. It’ll be fun.
