    LEXINGTON, Ky.

Just when it seems the season can’t get worse for the University of Kentucky football team, the next game happens. But Saturday looked every bit like rock bottom as a crowd of no more than 20,000 fans watched the Wildcats take a 40-0 beating at the hands of Vanderbilt.

It was Kentucky’s worst loss to the Commodores since 1916. That’s 96 years, to be clear. The two teams have played 78 times since then. This latest humiliation against the team long considered the Southeastern Conference’s doormat comes on the heels of last season’s 30-point loss to Vanderbilt, the Cats’ previous worst in the series since 1969.

    Matt,
The new football coach is very important to the future of Kentucky football but, that is only a portion of the issue. Kentucky has a reputation for being a basketball school. As a football season ticket holder for several years, I feel that football is treated like a 2nd or 3rd class sport. I refer to the KY Kernal story on the money brought in by football and basketball and what is spent on each sport. Kentucky can turn a corner by raising the money to update the stadium, football player housing and practice facilities and for Rich’s sake, a recruiting room. Recruiting is not just in your back yard these days. We can have a championship football program with the right committment from the University.

    Thank you,
    Tom
