Today’s fans of the day come from Lipscomb University in Nashville, where they spray painted the campus’s bison statue to represent #BBN. This would be considered vandalism on most college campuses, but at Lipscomb, painting the bison is a school tradition. Now if we could only get them to maintain the UK look for the rest of the school year. Go Cats.
The notes here. The podcast here. Let’s get it then.
— Stuart Hammer was at Calipari’s pre-LSU press conference today and he’ll be by shortly with quotes and notes from practice. All I can tell you right now is Coach Cal talked about receiving letters from dogs and he transcribed them with barks and ruffs. I think he’s finally lost it. Hopefully Stuart will explain.
— He also talked about LSU guard Anthony Hickey and why UK didn’t pursue him out of Christian County. Cal said Hickey has the talent to play at UK, but “you can’t take everyone.” He said he won’t go after a Kentucky guy just to have one on the team. Marquis Teague was his guy and he got him.
— Carter Blackburn! Kyle Macy! Tomorrow! Turn the volume up!
— Take a minute to read this great piece on ESPN.com about Iowa State’s Royce White and his battle with anxiety. White was set to fly to Kentucky to commit the Cats when his condition kicked in and changed things. “I was on my way to Kentucky,” White said. “Anxiety set in. It hurt me so bad because I have so much respect for Coach Calipari and Kentucky basketball. I almost came to tears because my anxiety had let me down in that situation.” Now he’s in Ames, Iowa and he leads the Cyclones in scoring (13.4 ppg), rebounding (9.6 rpg), blocks (1.2 bpg), steals (1.2 spg) and assists (4.5 apg). Give his story a read.
— Check out this video of Patrick Patterson being interviewed at gunpoint.
It’s a video game, silly.
— Patrick’s good buddy Eric Bledsoe made his NBA D-League debut last night for the Bakersfield Jam. He came off the bench to score 15 points with seven assists in the win over the Los Angeles D-Fenders. He has one more game with the Jam tonight and then he’ll most likely make his return to the Clippers on Sunday for their game against the Nuggets.
That’ll do it for now. Get your podcast after the break. Seth Davis called in for 10 minutes (and 10 minutes only!) and John Short got his first gig with KSR.
