The line moves to 6.5

After everyone and their mom pounced on Vegas’ opening line of UK by 3.5, the line has moved to Cats by 6.5.

Over/Under? (Why do I ask?)

#1 Tyler said what changed. Too many people bet on UK at 3.5 so Vegas has to even out the bets. If the line increases they will get more people to bet on IU to beat the spread, hence the increase in the spread. It works the same way if the line opened at 10 and a bunch of people would have bet on IU then the line decreases. Vegas 101.

UK is the best team in the nation and the most talented. The oddsmakers know that. I hope UK wins by 30, but taking the road favorite in a game like this is a sucker bet and most bettors are suckers for highly regarded road favorites because the line always looks to small to the average fan. I don’t know that any sportsbook actually offered this game at -3.5, the first posted line I saw was -5.5 and it looks like it has gone up to -6/-6.5. That’s a much better sign than everyone taking UK and the line staying the same or going down. Still I’m afraid this game is likely to be closer than any of us would prefer. I really hope I am completely wrong. Go Cats!

How about instead of teaching us how to comment on the Internet, one of you lovely KSR writers makes up a little Vegas 101 guide for us poor sheltered souls whose only experience with gambling comes from picking a random horse to win at Keeneland?

Over/under is 146 now and I think the under is a better play as the teams will probably score 140.

Line seems a bit low still, I would have thought UK by 10-15 at least. Then again, i suppose the first real “Road Game” for a few of our guys does explain a bit of it.

Tom Crean is a excellent coach. He has beat UK before, I haven’t heard any talk of the UK-Marquette game in the 2002-2003 elite 8, D. Wades coming out party. UK was the #1 overall seed in the tourney, but Bogans had sprung his ankle the previous game vs. Wisconsin. That was the Tubby years and we were looking at Kansas recruits the way they look at ours now. I think UK has the best team by far and I think we win by 13 (at-least) I really can’t believe the game is being hyped as much as it is. Teague has to UP his play. Learn what the hell the point guard position is about, distribute the ball. Quit taking the 3’s that he has a 20% chance of making. Quit Jumping when he has no idea what he is going to do with the ball. Dish the rock when he is on a fast break. I don’t think we have had such a selfish looking player than Teague in Cal’s tenure. I wish we could throw Polson out there and see what happens. I have a feeling he is what this team needs to take them over the top. I know people are going to read this and say I don’t know what I’m talking about. Anyone remember Cameron Mills??? I pray to the Lord Teague proves me wrong today, but I dont see it. We win today but continue to struggle with Teague in the starting lineup.

Is this line a joke? Who would ever go under 3.5? Or even 6.5 for that matter

  24. BROW-JONES
    11:57 am December 10, 2011 Permalink

22 I didn’t say he was. I didn’t even know who D. Wade was b4 that game. Im sure most of you didn’t either. We win today, still the pg position has to be upgraded. Teague has been an absolute nightmare this season. When he is bringing the ball up court I cringe. Its a coin flip whether its going to be a TO or a basket. Could you imagine what this team would be with solid pg play!!!!

Hoosiers are pathetic. This for them is their SuperBowl Whether The Cats win or lose will have no bearing on our season, For the pathetic Hoosiers this game truly matters because they will not be a factor in who wins it all. That is why this is a frightening game for the only team that matters We must kick their ass early and often. Go Big Blue!

I agree with Brow-Jones…..Teague needs a true backup PG. I hope Twany ends up being a solid backup but until then Polson should get minutes where Teague can be benched when need-be without having to have Lamb run the point.

Line changed because the sharps pounded it at 3.5 not because the general public or squares pounded it. UK may still cover 6.5, but it seems like a sucker bet to me. Vegas did build all those Lovely buildings for a reason.

24, Teague’s assist-to-turnover ratio are almost mirror images of Wall’s and Knight’s at this stage in their careers. Chill out and give him time. Cal knows what he is doing. Until he gets Teague mentally where he wants him, he will struggle.

IU will hold the ball and try to slow the game down, they don’t have the athlete’s to run and gun. Bet the under and I still think UK will cover 6.5, depends on officals.

Stop hating on Teague. He’s young and will come around. I personally believe this will be the game we see him turn that corner. Remember the days of Michael Porter? I for one sure am happy we’re in a new place.

If Kentucky controls the boards, we win by thirty or more because we’ll be able to control the tempo. If we don’t, it could be 4-8 point victory but a victory nonetheless.

the people bitching about teague are the same people that bitched all about wall and knight. turned out alright there didn’t it? stfu and give the kid a chance. the only reason you are bitching about teague is because we are so strong across the board this early this year. I’d be willing to bet that teague at 75% of his ability would be an improvement for 90% of the teams in the nation.

    # 20, did you really bring up Crean beating UK in 2002-2003?? Wonder why there’s not talk about it? On Valentines Day, 1923, Centre COllege and coach Jim Kendricks beat UK 17 – 10 in the ‘State Championship’ game.
Why is there no talk about Jim Kendricks??

If we have to give up a rivalry game it should be this one. The Indiana fans have shown with there moronic acts that they have no class and shouldnt be involved with a rivalry with any team with a decent program. Keep North Carolina and ditch the loisers. GO BIG BLUE!!!!!

24- We all need to realize just because Teague’s stats are mirror images of Wall-Knight, doesn’t mean he is anywhere near the player those boyz were. If you need proof all you need to do is watch todays game or any other game Teague has played this yr. Like I said earlier. Imagine, if you will BBN, this team with a good pg. That is the only thing holding us back. lamb is a 2 guard. When he plays point it takes away from his 3 pt prowess. We need that 3 point shot on the floor…ie…UNC game!!

I worry more about Teague’s free throw shooting and shot selection than his turnovers at this point. Just can’t have a 52% free throw shooter handling the ball at crunch time, almost cost us against UNC and will catch us at some point.

You people can’t believe everything you read on this site. Nowhere, at any point in time was the spread UK -3 1/2…One offshore sportsbook opened it up (hours before Vegas put out any lines) at UK -4 and it was quickly bet up to UK -5 1/2 as one would expect. It opened in Vegas at UK -5 1/2 and has been bouncing between -6 1/2 and -5 1/2 (meaning getting plenty of action on both UK and IU). Just because Matt says something doesn’t make it true, and on several occassions he’s posted point spreads on the site that have never existed anywhere. He’s also proven plenty of times over the years with posts on here that he is a terrible sports bettor. Either way, I think Cats win by 10-11, and hopefully we can all celebrate together in the LFUCG drunk tank tonight. Go Cats!
