What a long, strange trip it’s been, my friends. Yet, here we are at the final four, and quite the quartet it is. Of course it features the odds-on favorite Christian Laettner, who even knocked off Coach K in the process of reaching the semi-finals, leaving the cheese-eater short of yet another final four. Laettner will face off with none other than Marc Maggard, who defeated Jerry Tipton yesterday to win the Kentucky media region despite not actually being part of the media. What’s worse is that he posted on his site weeks ago that he’d make the final four and, with his first ever correct prediction firmly in hand, will certainly engage in playful nerdfight lobbying in his quest to win the title as his own personal badge of honor. Or he’ll be an ass. Either way, you’ll get to make fun of him.
The other side of the bracket pits former Gator and current Ray Allen plaything Joakim Noah, winner of the Florida/Tennessee region against the godfather of Kentucky haters Billy Packer. Packer bested a national media region that featured names like Davis, Phelps and Feinstein, proving once again that his crabbiness knows no competition.
So there you have it. The first matchup will be tomorrow afternoon so get your hating shoes on, or at least in a position where you can get to them quickly if you need them. Mine are New Balance.
