The Kid Who Broke Nerlens’ Fall Wants Afternoon Notes and Podcast

He’s the kid Nerlens Noel landed on at the Big Blue Madness Campout when Nerlens went up to dunk on a couple of young opponents. Without him, Kentucky’s star player would’ve hit the hard surface of the blue courts even harder.

He also wants afternoon notes and today’s podcast.

— Good news, NFL fans!!! The refs are coming back!!!! The NFL and the referees’ union are close to agreeing on a deal that could have Ed Hochuli and friends back on the field by this Sunday. Multiple outlets, including ESPN and the NY Times, are reporting that “an agreement in principle is at hand.” It’s finally time to send these replacements back to high school.

— John Calipari did an interview with 106.7 The Fan in D.C. earlier today and, according to the show’s producer, Cal told Mike Wise that he wouldn’t consider the NBA again.

The show isn’t very reliable with its podcasts — the last available download is from Sept. 7 — but we’ll let you know if Cal’s interview hits the internet.

— Eric Lindsey over at has a good read on Jarrod Polson and his new confidence. Polson is looking to get real minutes this year, instead of mop-up duty when everyone is screaming for him to SHOOOOOOOOOTTTTT!!!!

Mississippi State unveiled new uniforms today and they’re impressive. Here is a look at the helmet:

And a video showing the two new styles:

Now if only they could find away to upgrade Starkville, they’d be in business.

— Today’s podcast features Oscar Combs. What more could you want?

I’ve been worried for a while that Cal would one day leave us for the NBA. But after reading that tweet, and reflecting back on what Cal has said about getting to affect players/families lives, I actually think he means it. Why would you wanna go back to the NBA where they want less guidance?

If this is true we have Cal for the remainder of his career. What college job would he possibly leave UK for?

You know that 4 sure Dave? Looks like the kid took a good shot from Noel’s left leg to save the BASKETBALL SEASON.. Glad we have fans like that who will even at that age, put their self in harms way in order to save the basketball season!!! Lol..

Broke his fall you say? The kid undercut Nerlens trying to block him. He’s just a kid that doesn’t know better, but I’m sure there are plenty of grown up idiots that would of tried to do the same thing. I hope Calipari puts a stop to the players playing with the fans at the next Big Blue Madness camp out. The masses of people are just too stupid.

Maybe UK should get football unis that look VERY similar to Florida or Alabama. That should be worth 3 points, at least, right???

I am so tired of hearing about uniforms – look back at the past several national champs – traditional uniform, nothing new / hip. UK could have as many combos as Oregon – and we’d still suck and (4* & 5*) kids would still stay away from us.

The kid did not undercut him I was standing there watching it. Watch it in slow motion and you will see what I am talking about. On his jump his momentum carried him away from the basket, hitting the RIM with the ball, caused him to lose his balance. Just my opinion though…

I watched the video in slow motion again and it appears the kid’s left hand is pushing on Nerlen’s leg causing him to fall backwards. You make a good point though. Nerlens is just going to be the number 1 draft pick, so I’m sure the reason he fell is just because he’s not a good athlete and got rejected by the rim. It wouldn’t be because a kid that is visibly right under his feet is pushing on him while he is in the air.

You ever mistime your jump while dunking? It happens. Have saw guys in both college and the NBA mistime a jump and the rim get them and throw them to the ground. On another note though, I am very glad both Nerlens’ and the kid we’re not hurt. GO CATS!!!!!!!!!

What made the kid who was moving towards Nerlens fall backwards away from Nerlens? He ran into Nerlens’ legs.

I watched Polson in the sweet sixteen.I believe he brought his team three years in a row, maybe two.Kid can play.

At 11 second mark the kid is falling backwards before Nerlens even touches the rim.

Totally disagree!! Nerlens leg ran into him while falling from the sky.If You watch the video WLEX had, showing the view someone recorded from behind the basket you will see what I am saying. The recording is from someone who had climbed upon the fence so you have a totally different view and better picture. So to answer your question of what made the kid fall backwards that would be the left leg of Noel while falling from a missed dunk!

  25. Tony
    6:35 pm September 26, 2012 Permalink

The kid actually is leaning back at the 11 second mark not falling.I agree to disagree with you on this all that matters is both are OK!!!!!

  26. BuckNasty58
    6:36 pm September 26, 2012 Permalink

Well I’m done arguing with you. Look at the video we have right now. At 11 seconds the kid changes momentum and starts to fall backwards before Nerlens even dunks it because he bounced off him. You are now arguing against simple physics instead of me.

    6:42 pm September 26, 2012 Permalink

You see what you want to see. Watch the video WLEX showed Friday on their 6:00pm news and I guarantee if you are an honest person you will agree the kid only fell when hit by Noel on his way down… Watch it then get back with what you think.

Some of you aren’t very observant. Check the video again and you will see the reason Noel fell backwards is because he straight up missed the dunk! The ball hits the rim and on his way up the kid is behind him. If you notice, the kid does start to fall backwards because as Noel went up, the kid basically ran into his butt which knocks him backwards. So the kid is fallen backwards, Noel misses the dunk, the lands on him. Not the kids fault. Noel’s for missing a dunk.

Also even if the kid did have his arm on him and gave him a little push, it couldn’t have been much so if Noel can’t handle that I feel for him when the season starts.

Amen 30. I don’t think this kid is big enough to shove Noel down. I’ve seen videos of Nerlens dunking on some big teenagers even taking contact after he left his feet. He just missed the dunk plain and simple. Thay showed it on the news and that kid didn’t make him fall. The main thing thank god is the little guy didn’t get hurt

If you saw a more complete video that started earlier you would have seen the kid pull on Noel’s pants (#7 that is why his pants are falling down) and that caused Noel to miss the dunk and then fall down.
