The Herald-Leader has actual football attendance for the year

Don’t believe the 44,902 attendance in Commonwealth last weekend? We don’t either. That’s because there were only 18,885 scanned tickets, according to The Herald-Leader.  Jen Smith filed an Open Records Request to get the actual scanned attendance for the season and this is what she found:

Kent State
Announced: 48,346
Actual: 37,000

Western Kentucky
Announced: 53,980
Actual: 43,174

South Carolina
Announced: 49,810
Actual: 35,086

Mississippi State
Announced: 49,498
Actual: 29,927

Georgia
Announced: 54,553
Actual: 33,420

Vanderbilt
Announced: 44,902
Actual: 18,885

Then there is this:

Within UK’s response, it mentions that these “actual” numbers are of scanned ticket sales through Ticketmaster, but adds that “these numbers do not include players, media, workers, etc., who were also in attendance during the games and do not use the scanned ticket procedure.”

Nice work, Jen.

The reason is that those figures are usually included in attendance numbers. For instance, if you look up attendance records for Commonwealth or Rupp or anywhere else, those #s will include players, media, etc. That’s whya stadium/arena with a fixed capacity will break attendance records for a big game — there’s more media present, etc.

so at the vandy game there were 26,017 players, coaches, media members, and workers? aka free admittance outnumbering those who paid. sounds like obama’s plan is working like a charm.

I’ve been to several games and I knew the attendance numbers were being grossly inflated. So, who exactly reports those inflated numbers and why? Does it just make UofK feel better to say 40 thousand fans showed up when EVERYBODY knows that’s a BIG lie!!??

The announced attendance reflects the number of tickets sold for any game. Obviously tons of season ticket holders are not showing up and can’t give their tickets away. That’s why there is such a huge difference between announced attendance and actual attendance.

#5, good to see the Tards were 1 for 19 tonight behind the 3 point line. Your team is pathetic. They got lucky to make the FF last year, got spanked by UK twice and won’t even make it past the second round of the NCAA this year. But you will continue to pay Pitino for his 15 seconds of work. Ha, ha, ha – now shave your line beard.

Yeah, everyone knows attendance doesn’t just = fans in seats…but those are the only ones that matter. Without the players and staff, there wouldn’t even be a game, so it’s stupid to include that in final #s intended to gauge viewership/fan support.

If Barney is a holy roller like he sez, shouldn’t someone be penalized for lying to our “great fans”, and the press? Does the AD sign off on the announced figgers’? Someone has to, right? Anyway, why would Barney expect to have any cache of truthfulness? And I guess we all know where polsters go for training now. UK should offer fudgin’ attendance numbers as a masters.

So in conclusion, eff Barney, I don’t care if we hear another word from him again. Eff Bronco and Mittens, the 2 parties, and the pollsters, I never want to hear from them again too.

How many days ’til real basketball starts?

    Ps @#13 Joe

Instead of comparing apples to oranges, next time a Tard fan taunts you just tell ’em, “105 baby”(it’s their SoS) Or just laff at their line beard, prison tat’s, and hold your finger and thumb in the shape of an “L” on your forehead.

If you’re arguing with one of their B’ball retards that the reason Pitino didn’t recruit Peter Jurkin was that he was worried Jurkin stealin’ all his bitchez!

#5, here you go. USA Today/Sagarin Ratings has UL ranked 44th, with a strength of schedule of 105. Not only that, but they have 10 SEC teams ranked higher, including Vandy and Missouri. UL sux and doesn’t exist. If the Big East is so good, why are you trying to leave? Jim Boeheim smacked UL and Pitino down like gutter b*tches.

I have a hard time believing there were 26,000 players, media, workers, etc at the Vanderbilt game. And why were there so many more players, media, workers, etc at this game than the other ones?

From someone who was at the first half of the vandy game, I can assure you that the players and coaches were not in attendance.

Most of us realize that the “official” attendance for EVERY sporting event (NBA, NFL, MLB, NCAA b’ball, etc) includes season tickets sold and anyone who was in the facility without a ticket. That’s fine, but you still have to love how a bureaucrat is always looking for a way to spin the facts. So the “actual” number didn’t include, players, media, workers, etc who were in attendance. We get it. But add 1,000 (generous I think) to cover them and the actual attendance was still less than 20,000 for the Vandy game. It still says about 25k season ticket holders did not show up and can’t even give their tickets away. I’m glad the attendance has been abysmal, so Mitch finally got the message and is making a coaching change.

    23) A little gold would be ok, but I would be in mostly cash. This “fiscal cliff” cannot be fixed in 6 weeks. It’s only a matter of time before the market gets hammered again. Pumping trillions of dollars into the markets can only last so long. I don’t want to hear any lib cry when their 401k gets slashed either.

You’d think that with 26,017 players, media, workers, etc., who were also in attendance during the games and do not use the scanned ticket procedure 1 or 2 of them could have coached the team well enough to score a touchdown, or at least a field goal.

the “actual” attendance also should also take into account the angry fans that leave at the half, so 18,800 should be somewhere around 12,200
