Being a lifelong UK fan. The only problem i see with this team is we will not have pg back up if polson leaves.
Congrats to UL coaching staff once again! They now also have the best women’s coach in the state. Mitchell did not have his team prepared at all for the game last night…another embarrassment on national TV. Their offense had been sporadic all year but defense very strong. They had neither last night.

Next season will be one of two extremes. It will either be the greatest UK team in history and they will roll to a title. Or it will be the biggest epic fail by Cal and the players. There has never been a team in the NCAA with this many future pros and All-Americans. It is title or failure.

39. Let me try it one more time. There was some national consensus that UK women had enuf talent to get to the final 4…obviously they fell short. I don’t care what Cal’s record is vs. Rick’s. Cal recruits more and better talent. Rick coaches his guys up with consistency and many, if not most, of the pundits say that Pitino is a better in game coach i.e., adjustments during etc. Where am I off base? Cal’s coaching has been elevated and shielded by superior talent, but he really got exposed this year. There aren’t many coaches out there that could have done a worse job with Cal’s talent.

I am a UK alum and season ticket holder. I love having Coach Cal. But, I must admit, I prefer the way uofl is likely going to do it this year. I am thankful for the title last year. But if I had my choice, I would like to see it done with players that have invested in the program rather then getting a bunch of rental players. I guess winning is the bottom line though and I would not trade Cal.

#14–I have been a UK fan ALL of my 60 years, but I guess the truth hurts. I agree with Mike (troll or not) 100%. UK NEVER looked comfortable against UConn. While (I guess) Mitchell was planning his next choreography for BBMadness, UConn took the women’s team to the woodshed…again. He was NEVER in the game. You have to BELIEVE you can beat a team; it was evident UK never came close to that thought.

Mike, I think you are inventing some facts. Most pundits actually lump cal and potion in the cant x and o category. I don’t think it’s true (see jorts, josh; liggins, deAndre) and is a rather lazy bit of journalism. Not only is recruiting prominantly listed under coaching duties, both guys coach great defense. They tend not to excel at offensive execution, which is but one facet of coaching. As to talent, dieng is as talented and as WCS and Siva and blackshear are McDonald’s AAs. The difference is potion coached them DOWN the first few years of their career and you forget how highly ranked they where. Bottom line, both coaches took over great programs in bad spots and Cal delivered all the accolades Rick did in 4 yrs vs 10. To me, that’s the coaching record and speaks for itself.

I agree…there are a lot of pundits that feel that he isn’t that good of an x and o guy. Cal also marginalizes his coaching ability by distaining the Zone D. He is too stubborn to a fault in this regard. I am defining coaching in narrower terms than probably most folks and by that I mean game preparation, gametime adjustments, halftime speeches etc. For the total package I wouldn’t trade Cal for anyone out there. For getting his players more motivated to play, be more physical and have more fight, and maximizing the talent that you have, Pitino would get my vote, especially this year.
