The Derby’s Saturday Morning Links

This picture has been used here before. I will not apologize.

There will be two groups of people at the Kentucky Derby today. The first will be decked out in their finest and gaudiest outfits enjoying the festivities of one of the greatest days in sport. The second will be corralled into the sure to be muddy infield, given copious amount of alcohol and told to have fun. There are very few situations that present themselves with a similar dichotomy to the class structures within The Hunger Games but the Kentucky Derby is one of them. There will also be horse racing, if you’re into that.

– The track at Churchill Downs has already been described as sloppy after overnight thunderstorms, now the Derby guests can expect a hot, muggy day of festivities. The Associated Press has a nice Derby write up that touches upon many different aspects of the big race.

– If you missed it yesterday, a female jockey won the Kentucky Oaks for the first time. Rosie Napravnik on the back of Believe You Can got out to a quick start and held on to win the $1 million dollar race. SI has a nice write up on a fantastic female first in the horse industry.

– Pete DiPrimio of The News-Sentinel in Fort Wayne, Ind. has a write up about the termination of the UK-IU series. Legitimate reasons can be made from both coaches as to why they stuck so soundly to their guns, but the real losers in this scenario are the fans. As a fan, I want to see Kentucky play the best teams on a regular basis. I don’t really care for all this finger pointing stuff.

– Coach Cal’s media BFF, Andy Katz, has an inside look at the team’s visit to the White House yesterday. He reminded us in it that President Obama didn’t choose Kentucky to win it all. It’s always great to make the commander-in-chief eat a little crow. However, Mr. President may be able to wiggle out of his pick by asserting that he was just trying to appeal to a swing state in North Carolina. Let’s let him have that.

– Michael Kidd-Gilchrist’s high school teammate, Derrick Gordon, who starred as a freshman at Western Kentucky last season has finally made a decision on his transfer. Gordon has been looking for a new school since the Cats eliminated the Hilltoppers in the first round of the NCAA tournament and has now decided on UMass. Let’s wish him all the best not only because it’s what MKG would do, but also because he seems like a solid guy.

– There’s never too much White House video:

The IU-UK “Game” is what is lost. IU backed out of the talks and thus, the game is gone. While there is more to it, that one move by IU backing out is why we have no game. Thats not finger pointing…thats fact.

2: It would seem that we have beat the horse nearly to death, I agree. For anyone who slept through yesterday and is just waking up to KSR, on this page is the best, clearest and most comprehensive video of the White House visit:

I haven’t seen any evidence of Anthony Bennett dropping UF from his list on any other recruiting sites.

IU knows the only place on the planet they can possibly beat UK is at ASS. Hall. UK knows ASS. Hall will be filled with white trash, inbred scum of IU fans that spew vile hate and threaten UK fans physically. Some of the IU vermin even physically attacked UK fans merely for being UK fans and wanting to watch a basketball games. Since IU fans have no idea of decency, humanity, or class, UK has no choice but to not play in ASS. Hall in order to protect IU fans from the ass beating they will receive from UK fans once riled.

    You’re welcome, IU.

Hey… did the UK basketball team go to D.C. or something?

I can’t find anything on it. Stupid media bias.

#9 Stop it. The comments section has really sucked lately because of partisan, insecure republicans/democrats. There’s all kinds of political websites you can go and pick fights on.
