It keeps coming. Nebraska took off to the Big 10 and now today, the Colorado Buffaloes will announce a move to the Pac 10. This sets the stage for one of two potential results….the creation of a new Big 12 with TCU and another team or (more likely) the movement of Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State to the Pac 10. This would leave Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State and Baylor out to dry and would create a monster Mountain West conference that could immediately step in and get a BCS bid.
So two (and possibly three) of the steps towards a fundamental altering of college sports have happened. The next shot is in the Big 10 and SEC’s hands. If the Big Ten or SEC go to 16, then its on. The other league would likely follow, leaving the ACC to pick up the scraps and the Big East schools that cant find a home in those conferences (likely Louisville and Cincinnati) out to dry. What happens then is anyone’s guess.
It is official “terrified” stage at Kansas as they pray that the Big 12 survives…and for those folks in offices at the Yum campus, things are starting to get a little sweaty….
