I just listened to yesterdays podcast. Kudos to Ryan for working his sources and finding out info, when so many doubted you. Also I think Jurich needs to be investigated. There must be something going on for him to keep making all of these deals. I wouldn’t put it past Jurich or Pitino to do something shady or illegal to get something that one upped UK.

Matt. I understand if you don’t want to mention this on the show but I just thought I’d put this out. A bunch of Sigma Nu’s from my time at UK listen to this show daily, including our common buddy Kuhlenbeck. Our House Mother from the UK Sigma Nu house from 1998-2012 passed away yesterday after losing a battle to breast cancer. She was a big a Cat fan as there was and she was always tailgating in the Red Lot year after year. I’m sure she was a fan of KSR and I’m sure she’s debating UK Sports somewhere in a better place. Thanks.

Never go on UL’s campus, but is not funny that an Academic Center for UL athletes be put at the football stadium? That does not seem very convenient for all their athletes to go to the football stadium to study. Should it be located more centrally? Or is this really just a stadium upgrade to sell to recruits, to sleep in class?

I will say it again, it’s not right that Anthony Davis is sitting the pine. You wouldn’t sit Lew Alcindor or Bill Russell. You just wouldn’t. Davis is the biggest and baddest basketball player to come around in years. He is the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft. He would start right away on any team in the league, and if he was drafted by the Knicks then Tyson Chandler would no longer be the starting center there in New York. Another reason Davis should be playing is because of the goaltending rules in international play — which say you can basically block anything that has bounced on the rim and is not in the cylinder. Davis would dominate that. Play him rat face!

The wet/dry issue is simply a matter of religion. Louisville and the area south to Bardstown is heavily Catholic, hence wet. South of the Bardstown/E-Town area, it is more Protestant/Bible belt territory and those counties are dry. Moist is simply a “foot in the door” step toward alcohol sales.

I totally disagree Davis is not a better player than Chandler already. He will certainly have better stats this NBA season and them will be the FAYCTS. His natural abilities are overwhelming for opposing players and give him a competitive boost to already be able to play with the best that other young players do not have. We are not talking about any normal young player here. Quite frankly, we may be talking about one of the top 5 players ever when his career is all said and done. Some people act like he’s just another young draft pick trying to get playing time on the Olympic team. It’s not like he’s a guard trying for playing time against Kobe, LeBron, Deron, or Carmelo. He’s a freakishly long center who can give fits to any other big man in the world and his only competition for burn on this team is Tyson Chandler. Also, the fact that other superstars are on this team give even more reason to let Anthony play. His abilities to get behind a defense and catch lobs would be too overwhelming with the back line of a defense trying to help out on the penetrating superstar slashers.

Matt, I listened to u yest & I am listening today, an I wanted to ask u, the whole UL/UK donation situation, does it all boil down to Jurich being a TRUE salesman an Bernhardt being more of a PE teacher? I just feel Jurich, as much as it pains me to say, sales UL & their product better than most colleges I’ve seen an Bernhardt just sits back an enjoys the ride. I mean u CANNOT convince me that there are not a ton of companies out there who will not support UK an donate so that UK can have the facilities they deserve. The whole do it yourself thing UK has going is great BUT, we need to step up an like Cal says MAKE UK the Gold standard an I hate to say(as far as facilities) we are the silver standard RIGHT NOW just n the state of Kentucky. WE have a better product to sale an guess what it sales itself. Who do we kick n to gear to get this going the way it SHOULD be an should ALWAYS be for UK?

I compare Coach K not playing Davis, as well as some of you saying he should sit and pay his dues, to some crusty old high school coach who won’t start the awesome 8th grader on the varsity team because he hasn’t earned it or he hasn’t put the time in the weight room with the upperclassmen. You play the guy who gives you the best team. Davis gives you the best team if you put him on the floor with the superstars. I think all NBA teams would agree with me considering he was only the No. 1 pick in the draft. The guy is as good as they come and shouldn’t be riding pine for any team in the world (that includes the US Olympic team).

But it’s when he makes off the cuff jokes about the team, that I get annoyed. It affects the way the fanbase feels and makes a joke of the program, rather than just saying he doesn’t think they will be good. People listen to what he says, and making jokes every day does impact the program more negatively than just giving his opinion.

This is a made-up scenario: You are coach for some country with a drug lord like Pablo Escobar running the team and you are playing your country’s biggest rival. You know as coach if you lose you would be shot to death and if you won you would have a life full of riches. As coach, you can only take one center because Escobar tells you he likes guards and will not allow you more than one center. So, if you had the choice between Chandler and Davis to run for you, who would you take?

Has anybody really been listening to this show for the past months at all?!?!? If anyone thinks that firing Joker or Mitch or both will change this football program into a winner is kidding themselves! This is a systematic failure of the entire structure. The football program and student facilities like dorms and student center need SERIOUS FUNDING! These are the sectors that have been ignored by the past leadership and have not been addressed by the new leadership Eli Capilouto. Until UK’s president and board of directors sit down and dedicate to funding a serious overhaul of facilities it doesnt matter who the coach is or who the AD is. Matt Jones has interviewed Mitch, Interviewed KY State Senator regarding funding now he needs to get Capilouto to put some skin in the game and make this football program something more than the P.O.S. it is! Firing Joker does NOTHING! it gets us from a 3 win season to a 5 win season, but without facilities we will not recruit the Atheletes or Students necessary to be a top institution. PERIOD

And if they magically don’t, who is back there to help make up those 400 lost tackles? Hell, if they blitz a safety or olb, who, exactly, is back there in the secondary that can cover on an island? The Georgia game was all about our defense, and if somebody can’t play to the level of Danny Trevathan we won’t be able to play defense to that level again. Danny Trevathan had 17 tackles against Georgia and our next highest total of any player was 5. You will be seeing Trevathan all over your TV come this NFL season. Also, we had ample opportunity to win that game with our offense but we couldn’t get it done at all.

Is recruiting not also part of coaching? Just ask Tubby about that.

Matt – could I be your seat filler (like they do at award shows) when you get too nervous and have to leave basketball games? I’ll do it for free!

People tend to forget that UK football used to be waiting for a fumble, blown coverage, bad call to lose the close games. Last year was a regression to that where you were just waiting for something bad to happen. I like Joker and he can’t make the receivers catch no matter how much he coaches them.

217 – Thanks JayCee. No idea where that guy is coming from. Bud Dupree will be good, but Danny T was an absolute beast and like you said secondary = shaky, d-line allowed holes all over the place, lb’s = inexperienced. I don’t see any way this D is remotely comparable to the D that kept UK in games last year.

I’m going to break something if I these Dish Hopper commercials continue. They are worse than the “Louisville Help Wanted” commercials.

I must admit, I was shocked uofl was able to play us so close. They had no nba players and we had 6 and still won by 8. If the coaches switched sidelines, Rick would have beaten uofl by more than 20. I know recruiting is part of it. But from just a coaching standpoint, rick is better. His 96 squad crushed teams by about 26 per game.

Sid’s son is on Big Brother, but it’s not the gay guy from Louisville. It’s Frank – the one with the shaggy hair and is Head of Household this week.
