The 2012 Final Four floor is in Lexington

KSR learned today that Kentucky has acquired the floor from the 2012 Final Four in the Superdome. In case you’ve somehow forgotten, Kentucky beat Louisville and Kansas on that floor to win its eighth NCAA Championship. It was awesome. There was confetti and happiness everywhere. Coach Cal couldn’t stop smiling.

Anyway, the university is planning to use the floor in the new locker room in Rupp Arena that is currently under construction. That way, players will have a constant reminder of what they’re trying to reach while they get ready before each home game.

It sounds like that locker room is going to be “the gold standard” of locker rooms.

Go Cats.

I wish there was a game coming up, like next weekend, that could be played on that floor before cutting it up…it’s too bad Cal didn’t put together an exposition or something with some older players to play against some of his players…Oh wait.

The locker room IS going to be the best in the nation – both college and NBA. The main locker room itself will be a cirlce of lockers with a vaulted dome type ceiling. The floor will be the center court from the Final Four. They are supposed to repaint it with UK colors. There will also be a replica 2012 National Championship banner hanging from the ceiling in the middle of the locker room.

Of course, it now occurs to me that they should screw the floor down instead of putting it down permanently. Maybe use some kind of quick release fasteners. They do play another tournament in March, you know.

Anyway we could get the video and scoreboard in a package deal? Time to put Rupp’s “Big Bertha” down.

9, I was thinking the same thing. What are they gonna do with that floor 2 years from now? Put it in the practice facility?

As a student at UofL and a lifelong UK fan, I would just like to thank the UofL men’s basketball team for allowing me to go to NOLA for the final four. Without them I would have never been able to get tickets or ride down with friends. Bc of their success last season I was able to buy UofL student tickets for $25 and be a witness to number 8… thank you Louisville.

This is why the CBS isn’t selling pieces of floor to the general public like they have in past years. I wasn’t happy when I was told pieces would not be available for purchase. But if this is the reason, kudos to UK.

They need to use this floor for the UK alumni game. Could their be a better floor to play that game on? Not to mention the recruiting aspect of it…

I was really hoping for a piece of that floor, but it’s going to look great in that new locker room!

They also plan on using one of the lanes for another part of the locker room as well. I think it is for the entry into the new locker room.

I will say that if you hang around Rupp later this month, there will be plenty of scraps going soomewhere! They are having to cut the center into a circle to fit into the locker room so there will be plenty of “pieces” that they are going to have to get rid of.

In related news, UK also acquired the Superdome carpet that was waterlogged by Hurricane Katrina and has been molding in a warehouse for 6 years.

It will be used for the Football Team’s locker room.

Would be awesome to put it out for midnight madness and let everyone see it as ESPN pans their cameras around the country.

It’s so nice the school didn’t think the $2.5 mil in donations was enough to spend on a locker room so they ponied up to make it $3 mil. Meanwhile we can’t recruit enough football talent to keep from being a national laughing stock and have one of the lowest recruiting budgets in the SEC. Guess the AD really doesn’t want to sell ANY football tickets.

29, GOOD. Let’s pour all the football money into basketball. Our football team is perennially bad and no amount of angry whining by the football fanbase will change that. It doesn’t matter to you that none of what the basketball team does affects the football team, you just want to be mad and blame someone. Go for it – I for one am ready to focus on what we’re good at. And it ain’t football.
