Terrence Jones’ Mother’s Day Surprise

Hopefully Terrence Jones’ mother isn’t reading KSR on the plane right now, because she is in for a big surprise when she gets home. Terrence Jones tweeted out the above picture, which is his surprise for his mother on this special day. No one call or text his Mom (per Terrence’s orders). If she happens to read this before she sees the car Terrence, Matt Jones told me to… If he tweeted the picture to the world, chances are good he doesn’t expect his Mom will be scanning social media anytime soon.
Happy Mother’s Day, Terrence Jones style.

Ummm, where did he get the money for this? Something sounds fishy here….

Advance from his newly signed Agent…
#1…what does it matter…he doesnt play basketball for UK anymore dummy. Besides, ever heard of an agent? They can forward the money.
^#1 his agent? Not like those dudes lack money… pretty sure there is nothing illegal or uncommon about that. Players usually have insurance policies taken out on their bodies which would cover any risk I suppose
World wide wes gave him the money, of course. Thamel told me so.
Anyways, that’s pretty damn sweet right there. Good for TJ.
I fronted him the $$$$, just like before he signed and during the past two seasons!
You mean a now professional athlete bought a new car?? Groundbreaking…
Did you guys forget he has been signing thousands of autographs around the state for $20-$30? I realize he probably only gets a set fee per signing but that alone is probably easily enough to buy a really nice car.
Please quit regurgitating what is put on twitter and calling it news. We fOllow the players also. We don’t get on KSR to see what we saw on twitter 15 minutes ago. Quit. Please
We all don’t read the player’s twitter so some of us appreciate things like this genius.
Once again..an ominous wind is blowing across Lexington KY and the University of Kentucky basketball program. It certainly does not bode well that Terrence Jones, a supposed student athlete, somehow has found the money to buy his mom a car while he is still alledgely a student.
One can only wonder where this investigation might lead but a third final four “vacation” is certainly not out of the question. As of this hour, it is troubling that John Calapari remains silent on this highly suspicious event.
10 – “We” don’t all follow the players that closely on twitter. We do get on KSR to see what was posted on twitter 15 minutes ago. I’d be willing to bet this was news to 99% of people who read it. Keep up the good work, Ally.
wheres the rims

who says TJ bought this for his mom…TJ’s dad couldve bought it…
where mine? you injured me and you couldnt get me one i dont want flower i want a car
Trolls be trollin’
12 – I think you are, but let me ask to make sure… You’re being sarcastic, right?
for those acting like “OMG how did he afford that”, are you just plain stupid, not only could his agent give him an advance, what bank in the word would not loan a projected lottery/first round pick a car loan? I mean come on, just ridiculous. Glad to see TJ get to payback probably the most important person in his life and probably a person that worked just as hard teaching him and guiding him through his life to get to this point.
18….note the name….NJT (Not Jerry Tipton) ever read him on Friday mornings on this site ??? …that should provide you your answer
This does not bode well for John Calipari and Kentucky…
How long before the Real Tipton tries to tie this to improper benefits?
off topic but still UK…the softball team is in the tourney and may get a chance to end loservilles season. UK will start play vs michigan in the regional with loserville as host.
Is that a kia
#1 probably from signing all those autographs.
Well, think about also how much money these guys made during their personal appearance and autograph tours…think about it the $30 a pop per sig that Terrence was getting in the 2-3 hours he’d sit down per SESSION per STOP. Plus once they “turn pro” the agents do forward $$$ as that’s part of their recruitment to clientele. Those guys made bank off of the appearances, very unfair to Terrance and the other players to speculate otherwise.
My bad, forgot it was Jones and MKG that hired agents already. Was thinking it was Davis and MKG… Nevermind, makes sense now. And for all of the people thinking it was the autographs, there is no way in hell they could pay for it. That is a brand new Cadillac SRX which ranges from 35,000 to 50,000. Good luck with that
Don’t read too much into this gift guys. He tweeted what his mother has waiting for her. First off, he didn’t say who bought it. For all we know, his father could have bought. Even if Terrence did buy it, he’s got ways to buy that. Look at the fact he’s been charging $20-$30 an autograph. Lets assume $30 per and roughly 30 signatures is $1000. Now remember all the cities he’s visited. He could have easily pulled on $10,000 signing autographs or more. Also, what bank in their right mind wouldn’t loan him money considering he’s just a few weeks away from the draft and a contract is in his future that will give him 2-5 million a year for his first 2 years. Then there is always the agent he signed with that could advance him a loan considering his status in the coming draft. People read too much into a nice gesture. I think he’s a great son if he got that for his mom and I’m not worried one bit about an investigation that might occur. Let them investigate. They won’t find anything this time.
Maybe I’m poorer than most of you, but if I bought a new Kia (let alone a Cadillac), then I’d maybe put some $ down and I’d be paying the rest over the next ~5 years. Terrence could have obtained this with just a few stacks and his “proof of employment.”
28) i know you have good intentions with that post, but just stop. everyone knows there’s absolutely nothing here that has any type of involvement with the ncaa. he’s a professional basketball player.
WHY does everyone assume he paid for this entire thing upfront? Who here does that? Please don’t tell me the majority of you are college kids who got a free ride from mom and dad. That would explain why you all don’t appear to understand financing things is normal. That said, I’d expect TJ to pay this off a lot sooner than I could.
Can’t believe a kid who just quit school and has no job was able to get a car loan.
Seriously? The people that are considered the most knowledgeable fan base in college sports doesn’t know how agents work? I’m sorry but educate yourself before making remarks. Look into something, learn about it. This is what happens when you sign an agent. Yea he doesn’t have a job now, but guess what the minimum salary for a NBA player is…you guessed it, 450,000. You don’t think a bank would loan out 30,000 for a car he will pay off within 3 months? Just read up on the subject instead of jumping into a crazy conclusion.
20 – My bad… Thought that stood for Not Justin Timberlake…
You guys really know nothing about basketball after college.
Athletes who are projected high picks in drafts get loans all the time.
All you need is proof that you will have income in the coming months.
Besides agents front this kind of money all the time.
#12 – graduation took place…
underclassment already took finals…
scollys are renewable year to year…so (1) once finals were taken and grades distributed, and (2) they announced they were not returning for another year to renew their scholorships, and (3) they hired agents for the draft…they were not students any longer, but business partners with their agents.
Now run along junior, because we all realize UL basketball players don’t get to do anything but buy their mommas bus passes on TARC, hooked on phonics CD’s, or Rosetta Stone for learning English.
Don aka 36: The best part of the NJT column that is run every Friday is the number of “intelligent” people who don’t understand sarcasm. Welcome to that dubious group…you are truly brillant!!!
#27 – I don’t think you guys realize how much they make off of these autograph sessions. Try to think 7 figs +
Not only do they get % of merchandise signed, these dealerships and shops pay an arm and a leg for them to come down and sign. You folks are clueless.
38) – You’re nuts. No way they are making 7 figures plus off those autograph sessions. You do know that 7 figures means at least $1 million?
#38 – 7 figures? Umm no. The Kentucky kids negotiated deals similar to “we give you X amount of money to do X amount of signings” so the idea that say Davis got the full $60 per autograph is false. Each player negotiated different deals. I was told Lamb and Davis had the same guy negotiating their deals while Jones and someone else had a different guy.
wou
At least that is what one of these memorabilia store owners told me.
Regardless, I am sure Jones had no problem getting the money to buy his Mom a vehicle. I would think the banks/creditors probably felt he was a pretty safe debtor.
(sorry #33, thought you could see I was just trying to be facetious)
#39 – #40
Lol again – That’s fine. Believe what you want. I can promise you Tjones didn’t visit a creditor to buy that vehicle. Of course I only know about Davis. Honestly don’t know to date what the other players have been paid at this point.
#41 – You are probably correct as far as his purchase but it sure was not from his seven figures he has made signing autographs since April. Davis did not get $60 per autograph either.
Jones did buy this with a autograph. The one you put on a bank note that says will pay in full in 6 months.Grow up people these kids are pros now. They make money threw appearances.Marketing deals, and cash advances from agents. They are millionaires long before their first contracts. That is why it’s hard to get them to finish out the school year.
I would almost guarantee that the money came from an advance from his agent. Some people on here need to keep their mouths shut if they are indeed that stupid. It makes the rest of us look bad. I also guarantee that they didn’t make 7 figures signing autographs but I will say they made a lot more than some of you might think. I know Terrence Jones came to Hillbilly Days in Pikeville and set up a booth and charged $25 for each transaction with him. Such as , $25 for an auto graph and then another $25 to take a picture with him. I can only imagine how much he made during Hillbilly Days.
41) – How TJ purchased the vehicle vs what he made from the autograph sessions are two different topics. Could have been an advance from his agent. Could be a dealership owner “loaned” it to him. Could be he financed it. Could be he paid cash earned from his recent appearances. They make some nice money doing those sessions, but not $1 mil plus. If Davis, TJ or anyone else made that kind of money, it was due to an advance from an agent and not the actual proceeds of the autograph sessions & appearances.
