Kentucky Sports Radio

University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Ten Takeaways From The Day

1.) Michael. Kidd. Gilchrist

We’re not just talking about Kidd-Gilchrist as the best freshman in America anymore; he could be the best player in America. MKG set career highs with 24 points and 19 rebounds to lead Kentucky.

After the game, Rex Chapman called it the best individual performance against Louisville in UK history. That says a lot coming from the guy who dropped 26 on the Cards in 1986.

2.) We’re going to need new whistles.

Tony Greene, Jamie Luckee, and Michael Stephens blew the life out of the ones used in today’s game. The foul calls were so frequent, I was even getting upset when they were called on Louisville. 52 total fouls isn’t fun for anyone and it takes the competition out of the game. Let ’em play.

We were on pace for a Polson vs. Justice matchup at one point.

3.) This picture is strange.

That’s Russ Smith reaching in on an official.

4.) Jones rebounded well and did absolutely nothing on offense.

Jones was 1-for-9 from the field, 0-for-4 from the foul line, and found a spot on the bench yet again, late in a big game.

When do we just accept that this is who he is?

5.) Someone at Louisville should tell Chane Behanan to shut up.

After the game, Behanan said it would’ve been a different story had he not gotten into foul trouble.

Please get the microphone out of this kid’s face.

6.) Shabazz Muhammad was pulling for his “UK boys” to win.

Just commit already.

7.) Tony Greene just called another foul.

Please stop. Nobody likes you.

8.) Rick Pitino didn’t enjoy the officiating, either.

9.) #LouisvilleDoesntExist

10.) Jay-Z.

To those that are questioning Jones, just stop. The kid has had some bad games, which are reflective of a kid who needs to become more mentally tough/ a kid who has a hand injury.

For me, Jones was trying to be a force on the offensive end, but it just seemed like his finger bothered him. Now, combine this with some bad decisions, that led to many blocked shots, and you have his offensive struggles.

With this said, I am proud of him for going out there and playing stellar defense, along with an 11 rebound, and 3 steal game. He has shown us what he can do for so long, that to write him off in this short time frame, is as childish as it gets.

Here is what is incredible, in the modern series (UK 20, UofL 11), Kentucky has won 65 percent of the time. That is with two Hall of Fame coaches on the UofL bench. That is also with the Sutton and BCG disasters at UK. UK has had six coaches in that timeframe. Think if UofL had the same type of overturn! Crum and UofL wanted this series and they got what they asked for!

I will let you all in on a little secret. Terrence Jones does have an injured pinky, but that’s no excuse for 0 points on offense. The real reason Terrence is struggling is because his best friend (Stacey Poole) left the team and is now out of Lexington. These basketball players are humans too and they have emotions. TJ lost his best friend and roommate and is mentally wrecked right now. Lay off the kid and give him time to grieve for his friend. That might sound homo but it’s true. We’re all human!

MKG looked like an nba player, having to play one year ago college talent. Beastly BEASTLY kid out there, I seriously think he will battle Davis for number 1 pick, if he goes. I have no idea if he will or not.

Jones looks timid sometimes, he looks pouty and sulky on the bench. He gets under my skin, but then i remember he’s a damn kid, he doesn’t have that mental toughness just yet. He came back to UK to try to get better, he didn’t jump to the pros and go late first round. Give him a chance to get better. He gave us another year.

I agree with several comment about T Jones. I had a broken bone in my hand and could not even zip my pants it hurt so bad. It took about a month to heal. You clearly have to be impressed with his 11 boards & D and the many intangibles he showed. We will not win the NT without his motor running 110%. Additionally, we need Teague motoring along at 100% as well in order to win it.

Behanan is a moron. If he had played up to his averages UK would have still won by 3 and outrebounded the cards by more than Behanan can count. What if Davis never got in foul trouble? 8-10 blocks on the day, possibly a triple double.

Agree with the points on Jones…he played hard today, and grabbed some “man” rebounds in there. His own worst enemy is him…just got to quit thinking and play. My problem is how this site is quick to get into Jones, but suck Miller’s butt. Matt had a lovefest over Miller today, and Miller is the biggest waste of potential in UK history. No heart, scared to death, and one of the weakest players (mentally) that I have ever seen. He is not tough enough to start on the UK Lady Cats. But the kid has lottery pick potential and talent. What a waste. Mabye it is because he is a Kentucky kid or something, but everybody gives him a pass for being a wuss.

I agree with Justin G. (#7 above) that people are way too down on Jones. I understand being upset with his play in the IU game, that was unacceptable behaviour from him, but to say he didn’t show up today is insane. His work defensively and the key rebounds he ripped down were very important in today’s win. I’d rather him not try to force it on the offensive end and pass it to the others on the court rather than make bad plays. He went 1 for 9, so what? Everyone has off games and having an injury doesn’t help much either.

That Pitino reacton was priceless. On the replay, Siva CLEARLY fouled Lamb. Loose ball and Lamb got to it first just before Siva. Sucks for Siva becuase it was his fourth, but they had to call it… too much contact. I had about 15 reactions like Pitino’s during the game when there was a similar call or no-call.

As for Pitino — here’s a quote after the game: “I’ve never coached a team that is willing to give the effort that this team gives,” Louisville coach Rick Pitino said. “Unfortunately there are no moral victories. We struggled shooting the basketball tonight.”

REALLY Rick? You’ve NEVER coached a team that willingly gave as much or more effort than your current team? I’m guessing there are a few Kentucky teams you coached that would have something to say about that. Typical Pitino spin.

The officiating actually wasn’t bad, and we benefittd from more bad calls than they did. Plus, if the boys are cheating and not playing by the rules, that’s not the fault of the officiating crew. You can’t “let ’em play” when they aren’t doing it by the rules. True fans of the game appeciate officials who refuse to let the thugs on the floor rewrite the rulebook.

Maybe its just me, but I feltlike Wiltjer was really a liability on both sides of the ball today. He is horrendous on defense, and I can’t even count how many open shots he passed up… a few times when he passed those open shots, he gave the ball to another player that had no chance to do anything with it with very little time on the shot clock. The kid has potential, but he only hurt the team today.

Also, Miller is one of my favorite on the team, if not my favorite, but his play today was horrible. He usually does not get the credit he deserves, but today was NOT his day.

NO, they should have called MORE fouls. Hell, half of Louisville’s team should have fouled out. Good God man, what the hell is wrong with you? You WANT them to be able to hack the living crap out of us, tackle our dribblers, come over the back etc.? Advanced cranio-rectal syndrome.

A dislocated finger is not something you recover from in a couple of weeks. He will be hampered by it all season and it is a major problem. If you think it isn’t go get yourself one and see how it feels. Secondly, many more fouls should have been called. UL’s only chance was to commit fouls without having them called. Drew, why would you not want the officials to play by the rules? Here again, that is just stupid.

Its only right to bash a player if he is on Twitter or in interviews if they are complaining about their own players or coach or doing something detrimental to the team in a very bad way. Something is going on in Jones’ life that we dont know about and dont need to know about. Just lift the guy up and support him. A guy with that much talent that could have left last year just doesnt lose it overnight. Hell even a guy from the pros that had his career taken away because of blowing his knee out could still probably shoot lights out over any of u or anybody. So its there. Something more than a finger is really bothering him. Im proud of him going after loose balls and rebounding like he did. So what if he missed shots.

The one thing I would say to Jones is this, “head fake,or ball fake”, do something when you get it down low besides going straight up. I wondered why Pitino lit into Behanan on the bench as throwing the basketball in Jones’ lap didn’t seem worthy of a technical. It all happened so fast most of us didn’t see it. I read where the refs had watched the Cincy/Xavier game in preparation for calling this game so as to not let the game “get out of hand”. Nipped it in the bud right there.
