Teague’s dad says family will discuss his future next week

In an interview with the Indy Star, Shawn Teague, Marquis’ father, says his family will meet next week to discuss and decide whether Marquis will stay at school or enter the NBA draft:

“We’ll look at it from every angle we can and decide what his best interests will be,” Shawn Teague said. “Right now, I don’t know. We haven’t even really had a chance to process it yet.”

Teague is currently projected to go in the mid to late first round, with showing him going to Philadelphia with the 18th pick. But for now, he and his family are reveling in the moment:

“We really haven’t talked about it yet,” the elder Teague said. “We really haven’t had time even think about it with the national championship this week. We’re still all kind of in that moment.”

The deadline to decide is April 29th.

Hes not gone. Chad ford has him second round, same for lamb.
This next year will be a super weak pg class. With his brother in the league, and a great chance to improve his draft position, I bet he comes back. It is a strong possibility.

If the KY underclassmen ignore the April 10 deadline and all declare that they are coming back to keep their options open – what effect does that have on the HS players considering the Cats – particularly Noel and Mohammed who are announcing on the 11th? Seems like they might decide to go elsewhere if they think there is a possibiility that some or all of the underclassmen are coming back.

Well its not like he needs to worry about $$$. If he improves his draft stock he might be able to make up the money he loses this year over the course of his contract. One year of playing the way he did at years end would set him up for some awards. I think lamb should definitely come back.

Unlike a lot of kids, money, at least from a family standpoint, might not be the major deciding factor here since his brother is already in the NBA. Of course, that doesn’t mean Marquis wouldn’t like his *own* money… 😉

Stay and be a lottery pick. We were just beginning to see his potential. Harrow may be good, but we need Teague and he can help himself at the same time. He can make this his team next year. I think Lamb could benefit from staying as well. Whatever they decide, thanks and best of luck.

MHO, no matter at what stage in the draft if he goes this year, he could end up D-League bound at some point. Why? To work on his game. He can do that at UK. Unlike Davis, who’s stock can only drop if he doesn’t leave, if Teague has a decent UK season next year and there’s no reason why he won’t, his stock will rise.

You’re right Richard, he’s already better than Siva. He also has a ring that Siva will never see, unless he sakes Teauge’s hand and sees his ring.

As for the topic, he needs to stay at UK. He is not ready for the NBA. He is ok at shooting and still too turnover prone on College Level. If he goes pro, he’ll be a fluke.

Peyton Siva has a Final Four already, that’s something a UK PG will never having going into his Sr year. Siva was basically the POY from March 1st on. With all the experience he has plus the speed at which he plays their is no doubt Siva will be the best PG in the NCAA next and we’ll hang number 3 in the river city next year!

Siva’s biggest problem right now is his predictability. You know what he’s going to do EVERY TIME. He needs to work on being able to run a play in the half-court without driving it. There are so many other options than the drive-and-dish.

Siva…I am still laughing. Pitino either ruined him or did him a favor. There is a REASON he is going into his senior year with “a Final four” already…whatever that means. I’m 30 in been in Louisville all my life. Always been a UK fan. That’s nothing knew. UofL wants to be UK.

They added seats to Papa John’s; still smaller than ours

The built the Yum! Center; 1,500 seats smaller than Rupp

They held their “Basketball Madness” at the Yum! Center. Half the seats were empty while UK played before a sold out crowd.

Siva is good but UofL fans believe him to be on the level of Wall, Knight and Teague. My only comment to that – LOL.

UofL made the Final Four and their fans were outnumbered 3-1 by UK fans.

  73. Teague and Gilchrist return.

    Davis, Jones and Lamb go.

    My best guess.

Lamb could use another year to improve his draft number. That said, there is a lot of talk that Lamb improved his draft stat in the tournament and that he might not get higher if he returns than he is now after the Championship.

    So I think Lamb goes.

Jones will be Top 15 and possibly lottery depending on his workouts.

Davis, of course, is number one.

Gilchrist could be # 2 or 3. That said, I think he comes back because he wants to improve his game to extend his career and his potential and he seems to genuinely like it at UK.

Teague is projected mostly 2nd round. I can’t see him going for that. But bigger fools have been made by the draft. Selby being the greatest waste of talent to enter before he was ready.

I would say Harrow would play the 2 and Teague would run point.

He’s barely in the top 20 in many of the mock drafts. Of course I think he’s vastly underrated. If he stays and takes a bigger role in the offense, he could become the best PG in next year’s draft. That would likely get him in the top 10, if not top 5. Going pro is risky because most NBA coaches aren’t as good at teaching as Cal. By staying he increases his potential to be an NBA All-Star.

While the situations are very different, it’s worth noting that Jeff really improved after another year. I see good things for Teague if he returns, but I’m in no place to know what he should do.

Best of luck with whatever you decide Marquis! You’re in a position where you have two great options.
